New information on ILR with adult child
« on: January 22, 2019, 02:06:53 PM »
I am applying for the ILR February/March depending on how far in advance the home office will let me apply and make the appointments. I was reading that any person that was an adult needed to have a separate application. Well I wanted to make sure what specifically needed to be done for both applications.
A bit of history I marrried my husband in March 2014 and we applied for the first visa just after the wedding. I had son from a previous marriage so we needed to apply for both of us, my son at the time was age 15. We needed all the typical things for the first and second spousal visas. Letters from biological father saying he was able to come to the UK as well as that I was the person with sole responsibility for my son and his birth certificate.
Now my son is 19 almost 20 and it says he needs his own application. So being me and worrying about every little detail I called the home office to make sure it was done correctly. They said even though he is over 18 it is a good idea to include his birth certificate, letters from his biological father about it being ok for him to be over here and the sole responsibility letter. They also said that he would need all the same financial details, as my application, I then asked about it being copies as I had original in my application they responded  that it was ok for the copies as long as there was a cover letter about why they are copies.  He will also have to have copies of the marriage certificate and divorce decrees, and the 2.5 years of mail.
So when I make my appointment for a spousal visa I also have to make an additional appointment for my son and I am hoping they will be on the same day about the same time which is why I am hoping to make the appointment 60days before my 28 day time frame.  I believe I read somewhere on there website that they allow you to go online and make appointments 60 days before my April 8 date hopefully making it easier to get both appointments just after April 8, 2019.
Well I hope this helps someone and it saves you the money that I spent calling both Sopra and the UKVI.
