How about some eels?
« on: February 21, 2019, 07:27:18 PM »

We were doing the tourist thing at Greenwich market and look what we stumbled upon

I'll eat most things, but the eels were disgusting.  Mrs CZ ate a whole plate like a trooper.

Fatty and greasy with tiny bones.

I used to work in East Ham, and there was a pie & mash shop across the road from my work.  I was feeling brave one day and went in -- ordered eel, mash & liquor (the liquor is this green sauce, maybe parsley sauce).  Once i saw it on the plate, my bravery went out the door... i probably could have coped with grilled eel, or battered & fried eel...but this was jellied eel. Chunks of cold eel in this horrible gelatinous slime. I put a chunk in my mouth, but just couldn't bring myself to chew it...i washed it down my throat with tea, ate the mash and left the rest. Disgusting!!!

That's right, the liquor was a wierd green parsely sauce.  Even though it was plainly full of some chopped herb, it tasted bland.

On the other hand, these kind of places usually have steak and ale pies with gravy, sometimes even steak and oyster.  That's usually nice.

There's one in Reading as well.

The colour of the lady's spring coat looks like it was chosen specifically to match the greyscale London environment.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC
