Leaving US job
« on: March 24, 2019, 09:53:25 PM »
I know it will be back to square one when we get to the UK... but I cannot wait to make my appointment with HR to retire at the end of this school year.
Just putting that out there.

If you have a 401k or equivalent I would recommend rolling it over to an IRA at a brokerage that supports overseas customers, and if you have a pension you may need to be sure your US bank will support overseas customers or that your pension provider can pay directly to a UK bank when you retire.

Exciting times.

I’m planning on rolling it to a Roth IRA. I have a 403B. Is USBC a good bank for US to UK funds?

Not sure about USBC but we opened an HSBC US account before we moved and directed my pension payments there. Our son did the same thing the following year. For him it made opening a UK HSBC account much easier once he arrived in England. Other banks work also I believe, we chose HSBC USA because we had kept our UK account open from when we left England in 1987, and since then it had been acquired by HSBC. We have been quite happy with HSBC.
