Deadlines for filing US taxes
« on: April 09, 2019, 06:22:44 PM »
Hello all,

It's my first time filing US taxes in the UK, filing as married, and preparing taxes by hand. I've read through some of the posts and learned that I should file as married filing separately, and that I should list NRA as my husband's SSN. My 2 current questions are:

The deadlines for filing- I keep seeing that the deadline is June 15 for expats...do I need to apply for this extension or is it automatic? Is this for both federal and state taxes?  Are there any additional forms that I need to include to show that I am filing from abroad (schedule 6?, see below)?

Secondly- I am assuming that I must list my current UK address rather than the US address that I still use for banking purposes, etc. Is this where the "schedule 6" form comes in? Where can I find that?

Thanks!

Check your state, for federal it is an automatic extension to June 15.

If you owe any money, that still has to be paid by April though.

Thanks for the replies. I'm quite sure I won't owe any as I haven't for the past 4 years, and the only things that have changed are that I've gotten married and moved to England...

Any advice on this "schedule 6"? Where can I find it?

Thanks!

I use TurboTax so the interface is exactly the same. I’m sure that will be the case with all the tax preparation software. Don’t know about the IRS fillable forms
