6 MONTH START DATE?
« on: July 28, 2019, 06:53:36 AM »
My husband gets paid every 2 weeks. I've been advised we should submit 13 payslips.

His first payslip has a pay date of Feb 27. His 13th payslip would be a pay date of Aug 21.

Do we need to wait until after August 27th to apply - since that would be 6 months from the first payslip? Or can we apply right after the 13th payslip?

I'm also wondering if we should for any reason wait until the 14th payslip on September 4th to include that one with the application?

I know I'm overthinking things but I can't help it :)  Does the 6 month countdown (in a new job) start from the first day you start work or from the first payslip?

Thanks,

The payslips need to show six FULL months of pay.  You're not overthinking this... you're right to be checking this out to be sure, because the application would be refused if you didn't show the full six months.

Do your payslips show the date range of the pay period?  For example, does the one from February 27th say "pay period 11/2/2019 to 24/2/2019" or something like that on it?  Or do the payslips only show the date that the wage was paid out?  If they show the date range of the pay period, you can start counting your six months from the start date of the pay period of your first payslip (in my example, February 11th).  If it only shows the pay date, you count your six months from the pay date (February 27th).

If you have to count from the pay date of February 27th, you will want to go to the 14th payslip on September 4th, because August 21st is not at least six months from February 27th.

Thank you for your answer. This is exactly what I needed to know and understand.
His payslips don't include a From-To date range on them. They just have a Pay Date and Pay Type, which states:
Pay Date 27-Feb-2019
Pay Type 2-Weekly

His bank statements run from 3rd of month - 2nd of next month.
So I will need Feb, March, April, May, June, July, August .... and then his last payslip will go in 2 days after the August statement (3rd of Aug - 2nd of Sept). So he should be able to go into the bank branch and have them print out  an amended statement for 3 Sept - 4 Sept, correct? That shouldn't be a problem, right? (as long as it is stamped or has a letter with the printed 2 day statement)

Also ... while I have your expert eyes reading this ... may I ask another question? :)
He gets paid every 2 weeks - same amount. With one exception which was in April - he only got one paycheck which covered a 3 week period. This is b/c the employer's pay dates were not in sync with HRMC ( I think this is how they explained it ). So to get back in sync and be on the right schedule for the tax year, they had to do a 3 week pay period as a one off. So that check of course is more than his normal ones but it still all balances out in the wash (so to say). This shouldn't be a problem, right? And should the employer briefly try to explain this in the employment letter?

So the first payslip only has February 27th on it.  That's the start of your six months.  You need six FULL months, so you'll need one (or more) payslips with a date later than August 27th on it (I think you said the next one lands on September 4th?... you'll need that one.)

Then you need bank statements that span from February 27th (or earlier) to until the last payslip wage is paid into the account.  You can use the full statements issued by the bank up to the one ending September 2nd, and then have your sponsor go in branch after he gets the September 4th pay deposited and request an interim statement of transactions that shows everything since the last statement.  If it's printed in branch it doesn't need to be stamped, but if they're willing to do it, it doesn't hurt.

You'll definitely want the employer letter to mention/explain the 3-week payslip and be very clear about explaining that.  It won't be a problem, if your sponsor meets the income requirement, but it does need to be explained.

I went into my local HSBC branch and they ordered me a custom interim statement to cover the last payment that came in the post as my bank statements were issued at awkward dates to our application.

I had a payslip discrepancy. One payslip stated the pay date but I actually got paid on a different day. As jfk said, this was explained and included in my employer letter but make sure you're specific. I emailed our HR rep and she sent me a detailed explanation.
