Volunteering on a fiance visa??
« on: July 27, 2019, 02:43:15 PM »
Hello,

My Fiance and I started this account when we first started our visa process and it has been incredibly helpful!! Usually he is the one to post things, but I have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with! So I am here on a military fiance visa and my fiance has just gone back to sea and I am looking into things to do while I am on my own before the wedding! I had previously been thinking that maybe I could volunteer somewhere to fill my time, so I started to do some research this morning and haven't found much current information! There was a post on this forum from several years ago, saying that a fiance is not allowed to volunteer. Is this still true? I understand that I can't work, but cant find any official rules or anything from the UK Gov website about what else I am not allowed to do under this visa! If anyone knows where I can find this information or has knowledge about this subject, I would love some help!! I don't want to do anything that would jeopardize my next visa, but don't want to go crazy with nothing productive to do until the wedding!

Thank you!!

You can't not do any work, paid or unpaid on your current visa. This includes volunteering.

Are you in Helensbugh by any chance? Or one of the other Navy bases?

Thank you for your response! :)

Unfortunately, we are not in Helensburgh. We live in the Portsmouth area, but not in military housing!

My ex husbands (US) aircraft carriers sometimes pull into Portsmouth. (He's retired Navy but its a civilian ship rider.) I've not been able to get down that way though to see him.

I was married to the Navy for 20 years. I absolutely loved the submarine community but it is hard, being a Navy wife.

As soon as you are married,  make sure you are in touch with the Family readiness groups. They are a tremendous support and will help you navigate military life.

Being an expat is hard enough but throw in military spouse as well and it is a bit tougher.

And remember,  we are all here to support you!

Are you based in the Helensburgh area?

I will definitely try to get involved once we're married! It is certainly a lot to take in, but I've heard good things about the community! :)
