Interest bearing account in UK for "US person"
« on: August 16, 2019, 05:48:02 PM »
Hey guys,

I am US resident therefore unable to open a lot of accounts in the UK. I have one account I have had for years and am holding onto it but it's a current account paying virtually 0. I don't want to transfer pounds to dollars due to crappy current exchange rate...any suggestions for UK or Channel Island accounts with will hold pounds and are open to US persons, and pay at least something?!

Cheers

A

HSBC and Barclays certainly allow interest bearing accounts held by USCs resident in the USA. However, if you do not already have a UK account with them it will be difficult to open one from the USA. I do know a couple of folks that opened an HSBC account in the USA and through them then opened a UK account but it does involve going into a US branch at some point for an id check and signing of papers.
