Accommodation proof?
« on: December 17, 2019, 02:06:23 PM »
Hello everyone,

Just a few quick questions about providing proof of accommodation.

My husband and I initially lived with his mom, then we moved into our own flat. About 15 months later we moved again. Do I need to provide proof for all three places or just the one we live in now?

Also, what are people providing as proof if renting besides the lease?

Thanks in advance!

You only need to provide proof of accommodation for the place you are currently living although you'll need correspondence from whichever addresses you were at over the most recent 2 year period.

If both names are on the lease, that's all you need. If the applicant's name is not, then you need a letter of permission in addition.

For the proof of accommodation, you only need evidence of where you CURRENTLY live, because you are proving that you will continue to have somewhere to live AFTER the visa has been granted.

If you are both named on the lease, you provide the lease. I believe the online application now asks for a council tax bill as well (which was not previously needed).

However, for the relationship requirement, you do need to provide evidence of living together for the last 2 years up to the date of application.

You need to provide:
- 6 official items of mail in each name (either 6 jointly addressed, or 12 separately addressed (from the same month as each other) or a combination of joint and separate, giving 6 in each name)
- they must be evenly-spaced over the 2 years, so 1 document in each name every 4 months
- they must be from at least 3 official sources (i.e. tenancy agreement, bank statements, council tax bills, water bills, electricity bills etc.)
- if you lived with family/friends for any part of the 2 years, you also need to provide a letter from them confirming this... so depends what date you moved out as to whether this will have been within the last 2 years

Thank you, thank you! This is just what I needed.

Thank you for the reply! I should be all good on the mail/correspondence front, but wasn't aware of the family letter - so thank you for pointing that out!
