Getting on the Tenancy Agreement but No Bank Acc
« on: December 12, 2019, 10:46:54 AM »
Hello, everyone! :) I recently got my UK visa approval (YAY) and have been in the UK for 2 months now. I have been struggling to get my name on the bills, tenancy agreement, etc., due to the fact that I don't have a UK bank account. In order for me to open a bank account, I need proof of address, which I don't have, given the fact that I haven't been able to get my name on any documentation BECAUSE I don't have a bank account. I have applied for a National Insurance Number, however, the application process will take about 8 weeks. I also tried to apply for a provisional DL (so I can get a letter and have proof of address), but I couldn't proceed with the application as it asks for a UK address I have lived at for at least three years, but I only been here two months. I know in order to apply for the second spouse visa after the 2.5 years, I will need documentation for every month I have been here and so far, I have nothing for the first two months.. AHHH! I don't know what else to do at this point! Does anyone have any advice for me on how I can get proof of address so I can open up the bank account and get on the tenancy agreement and utility bills? And given the fact I haven't had documentation for the past two months, will that be a problem when applying for the visa a second time in 2.5 years?? Help!!

Thank you for taking the time to read! Have a lovely day, everyone :) XX

Welcome to the U.K. :).

I’m surprised you’re having trouble getting your name on bills - normally all it takes is a phone call to the utility company and they will add your name.

I’ve moved a ton of times within the UK and have never had to show proof of address to get my name put on on a bill. I would start with the council tax, as that’s probably the easiest one to get on. They should send you a welcome bill/letter and that will give you the proof you need for everything else.

Just want to add though, that for the next visa you only need to show evidence of living together for the most recent 2 years, not 2.5 years, so you do have a few months’ leeway at the beginning where you don’t need to show any mail. Also, while it’s useful to collect as much mail as you can, you only need to show 6 documents in each name total over the 2 years... 1 every 4 months.

And you *can* apply for the provisional drivers license.  You just need to send your BRP with the application proving that you are now a resident of the UK.

And for the previous address  you select outside the UK and select the country. It is super easy, she must just be missing the selection box.
