New Life in the UK Test Requirements
« on: December 13, 2019, 11:33:29 AM »
Hey All,

I have my test booked next week, and just got the below email from the Life in the UK people. No more proof of address needed! And this is after I purposely went and got my drivers license just for the test of course.

We are writing to let you know that the terms and conditions have been updated since you booked your test.

The key changes are:

1.    You will need to consent to a passport style photograph being taken, before taking your test, you will not be able to take the test without this. If you have any concerns about having your photo taken, please speak to the Test Centre Manager on the day of the test.

2.    You will no longer need to provide proof of address when you attend the test centre for your test appointment.

3.    You will receive a Unique Reference Number (URN) for every Life in the UK test you take from 17 December 2019. You will need this Unique Reference Number (URN) when you apply for citizenship or settlement.

Thanks for letting us know.  Not often an increase in security which this undoubtedly is, proves to be easier on the applicant!

Wow!  Fantastic news.  Actually making things EASIER!

Just hope too many people don't try to slip through fraudulently and keep the new rules.

I'd still bring the item of mail, *just in case* the testing centre isn't aware of the new rules.  Wouldn't be the first change made without details being disseminated.

That’s great news :)!

And interestingly, those are actually the old requirements!

It used to be that you didn’t need proof of address at all and so you could actually take the test as a visitor before you even moved to the UK - this used to be helpful for people applying under the old rules pre-July 2012 who had lived together outside the US for at least 4 years.. they could fly to the UK as a visitor, take the test, fly back to the US and apply directly for ILE. However, when they changed it so you needed proof of address they instead had to apply for a spousal visa with a KOL Required endorsement, then move to the U.K., get proof of address, take the test and then apply for ILR... which meant applying for an extra visa, just because of the proof of U.K. address requirement for the test.

I would too! The main page still hasn't been updated yet.. it would be nice if the guidance was consistent for once when they make a change.

Hi all,

Just to update here, I took my test today and they seemed very aware of the changes as of this week! They didn't ask anyone for proof of address, and were telling people that they don't do certificates anymore, and you'll receive an email with a reference number.

Also I passed, yay!
