I wish to retract my statement! Partially kidding, but being on the phone for over an hour trying to book into my gp office and every time I get to number one, they dropped the line.

Oh, that would infuriate me!  Can you book online?  Or email them?  (The answer to that, with regard to my gp surgery, is no, but yours sounds much more sophisticated than mine...)

As to the online service to see records, I wonder if that's available for me.  I'm on NHS Wales, and my GP surgery is a bit... um... rural, so it's probably a resounding no, but I'll do some investigating.  I just feel better when I'm in charge of my health.  I feel like knowing gives me more control, somehow.

It’s worth asking! My app is called Evergreen but I have no idea if it is limited to one area or several or all! There are apparently other similar apps. I had to fill a form at the surgery, show ID and was given a code to set it up. It really is extremely useful. Last year I had a ct scan and was able to see the original report online without even having to call my GP for the results.

I don't think my GP surgery has an app, but it does have an online system where you can book/cancel appointments, order repeat prescriptions and view your medical records.

There's a big digital transformation going on right now with the NHS everywhere, but the services for appointments and records and online repeat prescriptions are all ordered by individual practices so there is no consistency on what people may have. We have "myGP" for appointments and "patient access" for prescriptions. You literally can't call to schedule an appointment now.

But if you need an urgent appointment and can't get through, 111 can schedule you in at the out of hours GP.

Unfortunately my practice doesn’t have a digital platform yet. Hoping they do soon when they open their brand new facility.  Thankfully, I have backup and called my midwife who pushed something through for me. Tried calling again today to just get a prescription refilled and their phones are still not working so they must be having issues.

I've found that once you get up into the specialists you can very well end up with some excellent doctors.  I am currently being treated for a chronic condition at one of the top specialist hospitals in the country, by a prof with an international reputation in his field. Theyll throw me into a scanner for any reason, and, frankly, its nice not having to fight insurance for the $17K in monthly drugs I now have to take (no that is not a typo) - they just get dispensed from the pharmacy on my way home from my monthly check. I got hauled in for a four day stay as they needed to check a spinal compression risk and when I was cleared to go home I just up and left, with a party bag of meds for constipation and pain management.

And yet my GP doesn't have a functioning phone system and had the place not been like a goddamn bus shelter with a 10 minute exam time limit, and one GP who frankly always looks like she would rather be doing something, anything, than interacting with the human race, and then maybe this wouldn't have gotten to the point it is.

But what is WITH that lack of information? Drives me nuts - if you are xraying a part of my body, why dont you tell me a) why and b) what the outcome was. No, Im not going to read a letter just tell me!
