RELATIONSHIP STATUS QUESTION
« on: January 01, 2020, 04:47:43 PM »
Hello Guys

I am just about to submit the application and sort out the VFS appointment but had a quick question:

In the question What is your relationship status? They do not have Fiancé, the closest options are single (means that you have never been married or in a civil partnership and that you do not currently consider yourself in a relationship) or unmarried partner (means that you currently consider yourself in a relationship but are not married or in a civil partnership). I would assume unmarried partner as she is my fiancé?

This is from the Appendix FM Partner form you fill out online

Many Thanks in advance

Mark

She is not your unmarried partner, so don’t tick that one!

An unmarried partner visa is a different visa where you have no intention of getting married and you are applying as unmarried partners who have been legally living together in a ‘relationship akin to marriage’ in the same country for at least 24 consecutive months. This does not apply to you.

Is there an ‘Other’ option? If so, I would tick that one.

Hello KSand24

That’s what’s confusing because I’m aware that unrelated partner in the sense of a visa is akin to marriage and lives with each other for 2 years or more. This however simply asks you relationship status. It has a button for help that says “I am unsure of my current relationship” now if you click that it gives the exact wording that I mentioned in the original post. No mention of skin to marriage or living together for 2 years.

The options you have are:

Single
Married
Unmarried Partner
Divorced
Separated
Widowed

Many thanks

Mark

Just to add

Once you have clicked an option it then takes you to the next page which says “what is your relationship to xxxx”

This then is obvious as it has options:

Fiancé
Civil Partner
Unmarried partner

So would we put Single in the first and then Fiancé to myself in the second

Or

Unmarried partner in the first and fiancé in the second.

Whatever you do, don’t put unmarried partner because that is not what you are. You and your partner do not meet the definition of Unmarried Partners, so putting that would be like ticking that you are Married when you aren’t.

I don’t know for sure, but I would probably put single on the first page and fiancé on the next page.

It was easier with the old form because I think you could just tick Other and then write in Fiancé.

That's what I would do.
