Quick question about bank balances for FLR(m) proof of income
« on: October 03, 2019, 04:54:30 PM »
Hi all,

About to submit my application next week! Using my finances, as I'm paid over the threshold.

Two questions:

My husband earns quite a great deal more than I do, but as I'm not sure if he's going to keep his job (may quit around the day I apply), would I not be able to?

Also, my own bank statements state 'outgoings' and 'incomings' with 'Opening Balance' every month and 'Cliosing Balance' between every period. I spend a lot of money throughout the month, and at times for my 6 month of bank statements, I only have £20 pounds left after each month/ etc. Not much!

My question to the above is, is that okay ^^?

It's fine to use your employment income instead of your husband's and it doesn't matter how much you have in your bank account. They just need to see the pay going in, how you spend it is irrelevant.  :)

This seemed relevant to my own situation so seeking clarification on income for my FLR(m) application. My initial leave to enter visa expires 4 Jan 2021, and so I am preparing our checklist for September.

Husband is self employed since September 2019 but has not yet filed tax. I earn an annual salary £36,291/year on my own currently, with a raise likely in August (this is when everyone's kicks in). We have one dual UK/US citizen child.

As for income, is this ok, or does husband's sole tradership/self-employment mess all of this up? Eg should i be making him get a job right now  :(

Thanks for your help!

If you meet the £18,600 requirement using your employment income then ONLY use your employment income for the visa and DO NOT include any of his income evidence. Just fill out the form as if your husband does not work at all.

Self-employment income is a really tricky category to get right and requires many, many documents, so you only want to use it as an absolute last resort, if you have no other way to qualify for the visa.

As you earn well above the requirement yourself, just use your income and forget about his.
