Money from family
« on: January 19, 2020, 10:23:43 PM »
Hi all.

We'll be taking the savings route for a spouse visa. We will have over the 62500 between us in the UK and US accounts.

Regarding where this has come from, I have money saved from my bonuses, a chunk of inheritance and also about 10k from my father as a gift for house deposit in the future, post visa application. On my bank statement, it just states that I got this money on certain dates and have had in my account for more than 6 months. I know I need to declare this, and I will do truthfully obviously as these amounts are 100% gifts, inheritance that has already had tax paid on and income so all proper but just wondering if missing anything for visa application?

Does my dad declare the gift to me in a letter, my mum confirm that my gran died and I got this inheritance post tax?

Does it help to label payments to my bank account so it shows as "gift for deposit" or similar?

No, do not do anything to the bank statements at all.

For the gifted money, you need a letter from the person who gifted it, explaining that it is a gift, not a loan, and will not be repaid.

For the inheritance money, I believe you will need to include the official inheritance paperwork which proves that you inherited the money and that tax was paid on it.
