Calling about application submitted?

Would you do this? I put one in on Friday and want advice on doing this. I know from past jobs and managers that some companies only hire those who call and check. They want to make sure you are really interested. This job is only a part time sales position. Would I ruin my chances by calling?

Do you mean calling to see if they received the application?  Or calling to check on the status of the application?

It wouldn't hurt calling. One thing to remember, I've found that the hiring process is a lot longer in the UK than in the US. You may not hear from them for a few weeks but I would call just so you know what's going on.

I dunno then.  I personally wouldn't call in that situation because I wouldn't want to be a pest.  But then, on the other hand, you kinda have to be a pest to get a job over here.   

And what Ashley said is right...the hiring process takes forever here.  My office hired a development worker toward the end of the year....interviews were in the beginning of October and a final decision was made just before we left for Christmas.  I thought that was an incredibly long time to keep people waiting to find out whether or not they'd been selected!
