Right to rent check ??
« on: June 15, 2020, 04:41:33 PM »
Hey everyone .. was wondering if anyone has gone through this .. my 1st FLR is coming to an end in October but we need to Renew our lease with Maxzine Leicester for the year by the end of July .. the estate agent just called to see if they can do a rent check because of my 1st visa ending in October .. I explained to her that I am going for my 2nd FLR in start of October ..

Does anyone know what a right to rent check entails?

Can I be kicked out of the house we are renting now ?

I have so much running through my mind at the moment .. if any one knows anything or delt with this situation before ?

Many many thanks again

It’s just an online form they fill in with UKVI to ensure you are allowed to rent.  Which you are.  It’s absolutely nothing to worry about!

Right to rent checks are standard, because it is illegal to rent to someone who does not have a valid visa, and the landlord can get an unlimited fine and even be sent to prison if they do.

So, basically, they're just covering their backs.

A right to rent check involves the estate agent checking that your passport and BRP are valid and genuine.

From the official UKVI guidance:
Check their original documents
You need to check that:
- the documents are originals and belong to the tenant
- their permission to stay in the UK has not ended
- the photos on the documents are of the tenant
- the dates of birth are the same in all documents (and are believable)
- the documents are not too damaged or do not look like they’ve been changed
- if any names are different on documents, there are supporting documents to show why, such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree

You will be ok, I used to work for a company that ran lettings background checks and the Right to Rent is to protect the landlord/letting agent from people unlawfully in the UK. All they will do is ensure when you filled out your application the first time that you had a valid status, they won't keep coming back to you to make sure you have updated your visa even if you only had a month left on it. Hope this helps
