Visa timeline help?
« on: June 22, 2020, 11:14:05 PM »
Hi UK Yankee friends,

I'm in the midst of my first spouse visa, and my husband and I are starting to think ahead about the next few years of visa apps (getting the first one was a bit traumatic, so I've largely set thinking about this aside for awhile!). This is what I think is right, but correct me if I'm wrong:

My BRP's expiry date is 25 July 2021, and I entered the U.K. on my visa on 25 October 2018. So I should be able to apply for my next spouse visa by 25 March 2021, correct?

Then 30 months after that (around the end of 2023), I should be able to apply for my IDR, presumably. Do I need to have my IDR for a year before applying for citizenship? Or can I apply straight after getting it?

Thanks!
Application submitted: 15 August 2018 (settlement gold)
Biometrics & Docs sent: 22 August 2018
Application received email: 13 September 2018
Decision made email: 2 October 2018
Entered UK: 25 October 2018
FLR(M) application submitted: 29 March 2021
Biometrics done: 26 April 2021
FLR(M) decision made email: 13 May 2021

Almost - you can apply for FLR(M) (spousal visa extension) up to 28 days before you reach 30 months in the UK.

You will reach 30 months on 25th April 2021, so you can apply for FLR(M) from 28th March 2021.

You can apply for ILR up to 28 days before reaching 5 years in the UK... so that will be from 27th September 2023.

Once you have ILR, as long as you are still married to a UK citizen, you can apply for citizenship right away without having to wait.

However, if you are not married to a UK citizen, you must hold ILR for 12 months before you can apply for citizenship.
