Document check for US wedding
« on: June 24, 2020, 10:13:29 AM »
I'm going for it. As I'm a permenant resident in Mexico I'm going to fly there on Saturday, do two weeks of self isolation and fly to the US as (at least currently there are no restrictions on flights to the US from Mexico and know people who have managed to get in with no questions)

I have found insurance that will cover me.

I'm going to give it a try and hope nothing changes in next two weeks and if it does, to hell with it, it's only money and I'll come back to the UK.

I'm going to take my passport obviously and birth cert (apostilled).

Do I need anything else?

We would likely do it in Washington but worst case we would just go to Vegas.

Check with the local COUNTY you will be marrying in.  Requirements are set by county within each state.

If your birth certificate is in English, you do not need an apostille.  Same with your US marriage certificate, the U.K. recognises it as legal and no apostille or translations necessary.

Be aware that NO insurance will be valid while FOC are stating essential travel only.  Not just COVID but a broken leg, UTI, etc.  They will take your money for an insurance policy but won’t pay out.  I hate insurance companies but they are a necessary evil.  Be careful!   ;)

Another thing to keep in mind, a lot of flights are operating UK to US, but a lot of US to UK flights are being cancelled.  Several people in the Facebook US Moms in UK group have been stuck for a few months.  Flights in July & August have been cancelled for many people as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I may end up staying in Mexico after or we even may end up getting married in Mexico as we're both permanent residents and we have contacts for getting it done in a private home though we'll need appostiles and translations of certs.

Good thing too is that I can get national health insurance in Mexico.

We probably should've done this weeksago but whatever at least we'll be on the right side of the Atlantic and can get it done eventually even with likely inevitable further shutdowns. Things are just unworkable from here

Doing it all in Mexico actually sends quite ideal!  Good luck and keep us posted!
