How much is the last visa ( fourth) for ILR?
« on: August 10, 2020, 05:31:10 PM »
Hello!

As my third visa comes to a close shortly, I was wondering what the cost of the final marriage visa or ILR. Is there a base cost plus another surcharge or is it one final cost. I was wondering what the booklet and to sit the test for the Living in Brittan costs as well. After this is completed and I get my final visa approved is this when I can apply for citizenship? Coming from the US can I be a dual citizen? Thank you!

ILR is currently £2,389.

There is no IHS surcharge, because ILR gives you access to all UK benefits, same as a UK citizen.

If you are married to a UK citizen, you can apply for UK citizenship as soon as your ILR is granted, as long as you can meet all the residency requirements at that time.

The residency requirements are:
- you hold ILR
- you were physically in the UK exactly 3 years prior to your citizenship application date (i.e. if you apply on 1st Jan 2021, you have to show you were in the UK on 1st Jan 2018)
- you have not been outside the UK for more than 270 days in the last 3 years
- no more than 90 of those 270 days can have been in the final 12 months before applying

When you calculate the number of days outside the UK, you do not count the day you left or the day you returned, because you were physically in the UK for part of those days. i.e. if you left the UK on Monday and returned on Friday, that would only count as 3 days outside the UK (Tue, Wed and Thu)
