Self employed spouse coming to the UK question
« on: August 17, 2020, 06:00:22 PM »
Hi

My wife just secured a job with her old employers who are a UK company but is being paid by the US subsidiary while working in the US.

When this visa comes though (knock on wood), can she continue to be paid by the US company in dollars but file taxes in the UK? Or how does she switch to being self employed in the UK with the same company?  Just a little concerned about getting the visa, getting the UK in 30 days and her being in the middle of a project, to make sure everythings above board.

I know she will need to do double tax returns in the UK and US and she's been doing this in the past so is very familiar with the whole process but can she just come over, continue working for the US subsidiary then switch to the UK company after arriving, have  a somewhat complex tax equation for the first part? Or must she switch to the UK company before working in the UK?

Thanks
