Dumb question about scanning documents for ILR application
« on: January 04, 2021, 10:03:09 AM »
So, I'm just putting my ILR SET(M) application together, ready to apply on the first possible day Feb 1. My online application is all done, save for the payment. I have all my documents, but since they all have to be scanned in and done online rather than snail mail...

....Can you take pictures of the necessary documents and send them in (as PDF/jpg docs), or do they need to be scanned in by a proper scanner? My husband is working from home every day now, but doesn't have a printer or scanner and would need to go into the office (which is possible, but we'd like to avoid that hassle).

Hey, I didn't see a requirement anywhere stating it needed to be done in a proper scanner, but my wife and I used her iphone to take the photos via an App called "Genius Scan", which did a pretty good job.

We had to take a couple of shots sometimes, because the lighting/shadow effect was quite pronounced.

iPhones gave a built in scanning unction using the camera! It can be found by opening the Files app and then I think selecting to add files and it will give you a scanning option.

It defaults to colour and the files are HUGE so make sure you change it to black and white! It will also auto detect the edges of the page (provided you don’t have them sitting on a similarly coloured surface) so makes things a bit quicker that way too.

It lets you scan multiple pages into one file if you want and then you can name and organise them using folders etc in the files app. Organising mine like that made it so much easier to upload them!

I had to make sure my file sizes weren't larger than 6MB. They ask you to scan your docs separately if your file size is too large.
