ARRRGGGHHH!!
« on: January 07, 2005, 09:09:55 AM »
I received a call yesterday from the county council supply service where I had put in an application a month ago for teaching assistant. They called to see if I was still interested--- YES! Then went on to ask if I had received a National Insurance Number yet. I explained that no- but since I will be starting a part-time job on Tuesday I would now be setting up an appointment to receive one. Well they went on to explain that the county council won't let them hire anyone on a temporary number so unfortunately couldn't help me until I get a number --- ARRRGGGHHH!!! They did say they have a great a need for teaching assistants though and to call them as soon as I get a number.

Of course I hung up and called to make an appt immediately. I was given an "identification interview" appt. on Monday-- but then I will get another appt-- probably not til the end of jan/ beginning of feb according to the lady and then it will be 2-3 weeks after that before I receive my number.

Things just cant be easy can they??  :(

It does also make me wonder if this is why I havent been shortlisted for any county council positions!

That's terrible Helena I wonder if it is worth making even more fuss to get your NIN quicker.  Did the Coulcil say WHY that is hteir policy? does it mess up their payroll system or something?

The lady I spoke to simply said they used to be able to take people with temporary numbers but no longer are allowed. I got the feeling she was simply relaying what she had been told-- that she had no more direct information.
I am hoping when I am there in person on Monday I will be able to plead for an earlier interview date at the very least. The numbers aren't issued directly from the local office so my guess is that the period between the interview date and receiving the number will be hard to speed up. But if I could at least get an earlier interview! I also am planning to call the lady back at the supply service to update her on my progress and see if there is anything that can be done on that end at all.
It's just frustrating!
