Yesterday we submitted my wife's FLR(M) visa application, and we're in the process of trying to book a free biometrics appointment (although it's looking like we'll have to settle for a paid one).

After we submitted the application the UKVI website mentioned a processing period of up to 8 weeks. Would this be from yesterday, or from whenever my wife is able to provide her biometrics at an appointment? Or should we pay no attention to the "8 weeks" guidelines as their backlog and processing times are all over the place right now?!

I would ignore the 8 weeks, just get everything submitted and get an appointment to complete everything, sit back and just hope you get a quick decision. There are quite a few applicants that have applied early in the year that are still waiting, decisions at the moment seem quite sporadic, so it's almost like a toss of a coin as to when you'll get a decision.

Ok, that's pretty much what I expected to hear, but thanks for the reply nonetheless!

Under normal circumstances I think it is 8 weeks from biometrics. But... I'm among the many still waiting from March-June, and they approved a lot of September and August applications ahead of us, so it's likely they will approve yours quickly to keep improving their fake processing statistics.
