US Passport renewal
« on: June 09, 2021, 07:48:57 AM »
Hi All,

I sent my application for a second passport to the embassy here in London yesterday. According to the website, it takes 3 weeks to process the application. I’m not sure if this information accounts for the delays caused by COVID.

Does anyone have a recent experience with getting a second passport from the embassy or passport renewal in general?

Thank you,

I just did this (and used the delivery service associated with the embassy).  I sent it on April 7 (2021) and my renewed passport arrived on April 30. I hope this helps.

What is the embassy delivery service? I included a self addressed envelope with the package I sent. Do they have a different delivery method?

They do. It's through DX Delivery (https://www.dxdelivery.com/consumer/dx-services-for-us-embassy).

I decided to use it because we've had BIG issues with mail delivery here in North London, and I didn't want to mess around with this.

I think it priced out to be about the same as Royal Mail (or wasn't significantly more).

Ah I see, hopefully no issues with the delivery. I too live in north London  :(

I'm probably just being paranoid, but in addition to stuff taking VERY long (especially from the US), I've had mail opened, and things not being delivered at all. I didn't want to take any chances. It has always been pretty unpredictable here, but with the pandemic, it got much worse.
