signing a babys passport..

because i dont make note of things i know i will forget ...
how do you sign your babys passport? i know you sign their name, but what do you write after it?
(by mother?) (or by father if dad signs it?)

I was told at the consulate to sign baby's name and then "by mother" in parentheses right next to it.  :)

ahh ok thanks for confirming that! it was on a sign at the window where we spoke to the officer person at the embassy, but i didn't make note of it!

I just wrote mother next to my name...guess I did it wrong? (but haven't had any probs)

I just got my kids' passports this week and it says on the leaflet to sign your name on the line and print BY MOTHER  next to your signature then print the child's full name above your signature.

Of course it depends on which spouse has the US Citizenship on who signs the passport and how.

Not really. There are some child US citizens who have no US citizen parents. Alot acutally. I would recomend whoever will be traveling with the child most to sign.
