Family visit visa
« on: October 16, 2021, 12:22:11 PM »
Does anyone have a list of documents needed for a relative to visit to the UK please?

I am a British Citizen and my wife is also now a British Citizen. We would like her parents to visit us in the UK.. We would like to get them a family visit visa to visit us for 2 weeks. I think this is the correct word for the visa? Please can someone give us a list of exactly what documents they and we need?

Thanks all in advance.

Our forum is USA/U.K. based and USA citizens do not need to apply for a visitor visa in advance, rendering us to have little to no knowledge on this topic.

ImmigrationBoards.com has boards for all different nationalities and experts for each, which will give you the correct guidance. Best of luck!

We don't have a list here but if you extrapolate from the eligibility requirements, you'll get a pretty good idea of what they're after, I think.

Basic eligibility requirements
You must show that:

you’ll leave the UK at the end of your visit
you’re able to support yourself and your dependants during your trip (or have funding from someone else to support you)
you’re able to pay for your return or onward journey (or have funding from someone else to pay for the journey)
you’ll not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home
You must have a passport or travel document that is valid for the whole of your stay in the UK.

You must also only plan to do activities in the UK that are allowed under the Standard Visitor rules.

Immigration boards will definitely be able to help with more detail though.  :)

There is a calculator on your link that shows if a visa is required or recommended (if they are a non-visa national)
https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

"This document provides information to customers about how UK Visas and Immigration makes decisions on visitor cases."

The UK government also recommends that visitors and those who cannot use the NHS for free, should have health insurance, to be able to reclaim from their insurer any money they have paid the NHS. It's a legal requirement in England that the full estimated cost must be paid in advance of treatment or treatment must be withheld, but urgent treatment must not be withheld if they have not paid in advance (these can pay after the treatment). The NHS bill is 150% of the NHS national cost.

Your parents can check to see if the country they are a citizen of, or the country they reside in/have medical insurance in, has a reciprocal health agreement with the UK and if they do, what that will cover for free..

Some NHS services are free of charge and you can check the NHS website of each of the four UK nations they intend to visit, to see what each presently allows for free while in that country.

EDIT. And this link about the Immigration Rules.
