Registration for US Birth in UK
« on: September 08, 2021, 04:02:21 PM »
Hi guys,

This is another question.

I need to register my daughters birth and obtain her first US Passport.  Everyday I checked, in the last 3-4 months and I have never seen an available slot.  Finally today I saw that there was 10 slots available tomorrow and 2 on Friday.  By the time I was able to register for the appointment within 5-10mins, its all gone!  You can only imagine my frustration.  I actually burst out in tears, as I am desperate to get my daughters passport as I am so home sick, I need to go back home to see my family.

I just told myself that I will just prepare all the documents necessary and in case I get lucky and able to get an appointment, I have everything.

1.  There was requirement, that proof the I lived in the US in the last 5 years.  Is my US passport with time stamp enough?  Do I need to bring anything else.  I have been living here in the UK for the last 2.5 years so I don't have much documents besides tax returns, and payslips etc.  However I don't think I have anything from 5 years ago.  I do have my expired passport with me that also have time stamps.  Would that suffice?

2.  For my baby passport photo, do I just go to one of this passport places to get this?  She's only 11 months so it will be difficult to get a proper one of her but I am sure it can be done.

Thank again for all your help!

If you can, remember the information you need to input or have it ready to copy/paste to snag the appointment quickly.

Most people use transcripts for proof of having lived in the US (high school or university).  It’s the embassy’s preferred/easiest proof. They do NOT need to be sealed. If you don’t have those, we can give other options.

Paspic.com is BRILLIANT.  You lay baby down on a neutral background (mine was on a SERIOUSLY wrinkled sheet) and snap a photo with your phone. Upload it and they tell you if it’s acceptable, pick the “country” to get the correct size (so you can use the same photo for US and U.K. passports if you want), they print and post to you.  So easy!  Or you can go to Snappy Snaps.  They are a bit pricey and you have to take what they give you, but they will be compliant!  They lay baby on a canvas and photograph from overhead.

Thanks KFdancer

I don’t have a copy of my college transcript unfortunately.   I do have my college diploma.

Would tax returns work ?  I just don’t think I have mine from 2016.  I think I have from 2017.

I think I may be able to get a bank statement from 2016.

Can I use my passport ? I have my expired passports and it shows my entrance and exit.

What you need is proof that you lived in the USA for 5 years and that a certain number of those years were after the age of 14.

So tax returns from before you moved to the U.K. would work.

Girl, if you can do a visa app, you can do this!

And when it asks for specific dates outside the USA, you only need while you were a resident and not since you moved to the U.K.

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year!

Hope you are all well.

Just wondering if anyone had any luck getting an appointment.  I am checking weekly in the last 6 months to no avail!

We will just apply for a UK passport for my baby as we will be going back next month for a visit  and can  no longer wait.

Also would it be possible to just apply for it when we are in the US ?  She needs her social security card and first US passport.
