My US Passport is about to expire help!!!

 Hello! I just looked at my passport and March of next year is coming up way faster than it was in my mind! I live in Edinburgh. I preparing for my fourth visa but my US passport expires in March! Does anyone know where the best place to go to renew it? Would I go to the US embassy or is there a certain place for folks in my situation? I do not want to mail it to the US and am not planning to go back for a long while. Thanks for any help! x

Most adults can renew their passports by post via the Embassy in London, so you wouldn't have to go anywhere as long as you meet the requirements. If you Google "renew American passport UK" the guidance should be at the top.

I did this earlier this year (mid-June 2021) and it was pretty straightforward. I do live in London and used the embassy's expedited delivery service (my mail deliver in North London has been awful), but it only took two weeks to have the new one in my hands.

Renew it by mail and you should have it back within three weeks

Definitely nothing to panic over.

If wanting to change your name, you could renew within 3 months of your new visa application and have your name changed as well.

We renewed ours via mail through the US Embassy in London in 2018 and our son did his the following year. Very straightforward and completed within 2 or 3 weeks.
