CRBA/First Passport/SSN - SSN mailed separately?
« on: November 24, 2021, 11:44:11 AM »
Hello,

We just registered our daughter's birth on November 5th, and just today received her CRBA certificate and her US Passport.

I assumed the Social Security card/number would come at the same time, but it didn't.

Is this anyone else's experience? Do they come separately or usually together?

I see on their website that processing time for SSNs says 8-10 weeks, just didn't know if it was different since it was done as part of the birth registration/passport application vs just applying for it by itself.

They told us 6-8 weeks for the passport and certificate and we got it in 2 weeks, so hopefully if it is to come later, it comes well before the 8-10 week timeline..

Thanks!
USA - UK

SSN is separate and much faster than it used to be.  8-10 weeks seems about right!

Used to be like six months.   ::)

It's been 6 weeks since our CRBA and not received our SSN yet if that provides you with any reassurance, Leanne.

UPDATE

Thank you both for your replies, much much appreciated.

So we applied on Nov 5th 2021 and just received the SSN about two weeks ago, so took about 6 weeks for that to come. Not too bad!
