UK Visa with DUI
« on: August 25, 2021, 08:28:45 PM »
I work for a large American multinational corporation. There is currently an internal job posting for a position in London that I am interested in. This job would likely fall under the skilled worker visa as I am an engineer.

3.5 years ago, I was arrested for drunk driving. I had a very high BAC and was given 20 days of house arrest. No one was hurt and the charge itself was plead down to a DWAI. When I was 19, I also got a Minor in Possession of alcohol but this has been expunged. I made a very big mistake as a 23 year old that I have a ton of remorse for and a ton of regret. However, I’ve matured a ton and improved myself in many ways because of this. I have turned my life around completely after this.

I’m curious how this would affect my chances at a UK Visa if I apply for the job within my company. I’ve read mixed things in the FAQ on this site and online. I’m specifically curious if since it was more than 12 months ago if it wouldn’t affect it but I know the time under house arrest may impact that.

Thanks for the help, Larrabee! It looks like having a criminal record/a custodial sentence of less than 12 months “may” be grounds for refusal whereas the other situations are “must” be grounds for refusal. I was just curious given there seem to be a few posts about people getting visas with DUIs.
