Question about scanning passport
« on: February 01, 2022, 03:19:43 PM »
Hi all! Just a quick question.

I am in the process of applying for a fiancé visa. I know you have to scan every page of your passport and upload it as part of the application. I have two questions pertaining to that.

1. Do the files need to be in pdf format, or are jpegs okay?

2. Can I use a scanning app on my phone to scan my passport pages, or do they need to be scanned on an actual scanner?

Thanks in advance! :)

From the VFS Global Supporting Documents Guidance (https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/gbr/supporting-documents):

Important information for uploading documents online:

Documents must be in one of the following formats - .JPG, .JPEG, .PNG or .PDF

PDFs may be up to 10MB in size, JPG/JPEG/PNG should be under 1.5MB

Please preview all documents before uploading them. Documents must be clear and legible to the recipient.

A scanning app should be fine.

Forgot to ask one more thing, should the scanned passport photos be put onto a Word document, or should they just be uploaded directly as images?

They need to be uploaded directly as images or in a single PDF file - as the guidance states, they will only accept PDFs, JPGs, JPEGs, or PNG files... so you cannot upload a Word document.

Ideally, what you want to do is scan all the passport pages into one single PDF file and then upload that.

Alternatively, what you could do is copy the images into a Word document and then save that document as a PDF file.

My apologies, just to clarify I didn't mean to upload an actual Word document, I just meant to put them on a Word document and save it as a pdf file.
Thank you for all of the helpful info! 🙏🏻
