1) Are there any travel restrictions before or after making the ILR application?
You cannot travel AFTER applying online, as leaving the U.K. while an application is pending will invalidate the application.
2) Do they keep or need or take the passport or BRP?
No, you do not mail or give them anything anymore… you just scan and upload your passport and BRP.
It’s usually worth paying the extra £800 for Super Priority processing, as it gets a decision within 24 hours and your BRP will arrive within 10 working days.
3) We are just thinking about a 2 week holiday having not been anywhere for 3 years, is this plausible?.
Yes, as long as you travel and return to the UK before you make your ILR application.
4) Is there anything pertaining to the application (or immediate citizenship application straight afterwards) we need to be careful of with respect to travelling?
For ILR you just have to make sure you travel BEFORE you apply and you don’t leave the U.K. while it is processing.
For citizenship you just have to show:
- you were in the U.K. exactly 3 years prior to your application date
- you haven’t been outside the U.K. for more than 270 days in the last 3 years, with no more than 90 of those days being in the last 12 months
