FLR (M) application - spreading documents evenly over 2.5 years
« on: February 21, 2022, 03:57:19 PM »
Hi all

After 2.5 years living in the UK, my wife is looking to extend her visa here by using the FLR (M).

We're just looking into the documents we need to scan in ahead of the interview, and understand we have to show proof of residence across the 2.5 years via letters/bills from at least three sources.

Would this be acceptable (her last residence permit started on 31st July 2019):

August 2019: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)
December 2019: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)
March 2020: council tax statement (addressed jointly)
August 2020: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)
December 2020: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)
March 2021: council tax statement (addressed jointly)
August 2020: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)
December 2021: Halifax home insurance cover sign-up letter (addressed jointly)
February 2022: HSBC bank statement (addressed jointly)

Is this enough of a split - I know it's heavily made up of bank statements, one of which will also be included as part of the proof of finances section as well as it falls in the 6 month window they want to see - does this duplication matter?

Any help is appreciated!

Regards
Jonathon

For FLR(M) the documents only need to cover a maximum of 2 years, so you only need Feb 2020 to Feb 2022, spaced every 4 months.

Which means you need a document in each name from each of the following months:
February 2020
June 2020
October 2020
February 2021
June 2021
October 2021
February 2022

Or if you are able to apply a bit later, you could use:
March 2020
July 2020
November 2020
March 2021
July 2021
November 2021
March 2022

Hi ksand24

Thanks for your reply! Good to know about only needing two years :)

Do they have to be exactly four months apart? We would literally only have bank statements for each of those months you've listed, so couldn't cover the three sources required.

We should have enough stuff addressed to just one of us, but was hoping we'd be fine with the joint stuff.

They should be addressed as close to 4 months apart as possible, and you need at least 3 official sources - at the moment, you have exactly 3 sources listed: bank statements, council tax and home insurance.

If you are unable to provide documents exactly 4 months apart, or you don't have 3 sources, or you cannot provide enough documents, you will need to write a letter explaining why not. As long as a letter is included, it shouldn't affect the visa.

Ahh great, will definitely include a letter! We were also thinking of adding in two or three documents addressed to just one of us each as well to potentially fill in any gaps.

Do you foresee there being an issue regarding using the same bank statement (Feb 22) for both the proof of residence and proof of income?

That’s fine - all you need to do is upload the same bank statement twice… once in the Finances section and once in the Residence in the UK section.

Hi again!

Just thought I'd check in one last time to put my mind at ease!

Having followed the checklist on the UKVI portal, here is everything we're handing over to get scanned at our appointment next week (for the record, she is supporting herself financially, and we have no kids):

Mandatory documents

my wife's current US passport
my wife's previous US passport (expired Aug 2020)
my wife's BRP
appointment letter/barcode

Other documents
wife's signed contract of employment
7 months of bank statements (last one was dated 18 February 2022)
Third party declarations (Part 1 & 2 consent forms and declaration for spouses)
My UK passport
Latest council tax statement (March 2021)
Letter from employer confirming employment details
Marriage certificate
7 months worth of payslips
Proof of cohabitation, encompassing:

Feb 2020: Barclaycard letter (me)
Mar 2020: Council tax letter (joint)
June 2020: HSBC statement (joint)
Oct 2020: HSBC statement (joint)
Feb 2021: letter from doctor (wife)
Jun 2021: HSBC statement (joint) & pension letter (me)
Nov 2021: letter from home insurer (joint)
Feb 2022: HSBC statement (joint) & HMRC letter (wife)

Tenancy agreement
wife's P60

A few additional questions:
We couldn't find something in both our names spread every four months across the two years, so have added in a couple of extra pieces of correspondence each across the two year period in case they don't like one of the joint sources. Does this sounds reasonable?

Some checklists I've seen on here have been structured differently, but we haven't seen anything with those categories on. What would you suggest is the best way to structure these as we're getting them scanned at the appointment?

Also, some of our cohabitation documents need to be scanned twice as they're used elsewhere, could that cause a problem for whoever is scanning them?

We wrote letters summing up our applications - are these necessary this time around?

Thanks in advance!
