I have 3 friends who did not pass first time.   It helped them find which app was the most relevant to use for studying.
I also understand there are several different modules / styles of questions,  for example one has lots of names in the answers.   Those 3 friends said the same thing - what they had been studying didn't come up.

Good luck with it , we are all on your side - hang in there !

Matt
Thanks do know you which app? Otherwise I’m going back reading which is a lot of information to retain for just 24 questions. I keep passing the practice and mock so not point in me testing I don’t think considering only a few of those showed up and rest was just what was to read in the modules Im guessing as I didn’t remember that stuff. Thanks you again :)

I used lifeintheuktests.co.uk.
Particularly the first 16 tests. Most of my questions were very similar with some variations in wording. However, reading the book and even the written practice material is a lot of what is needed. You can’t just memorize the answers, you need to know them.

Yes because the live questions won't be the same as the test questions. The information tested is the same but you have to know the material because it will be asked in a different way. You won't be tested on anything outside of what is in the book.

I do have a question. So I know I can send my application in up until my last day of biometric card expires. Does it matter, if the biometric date is after that?

No, you just have to get the online application submitted before the BRP expires.

The date you submit the online application is your official application date, so that’s the only date that matters.

The biometrics and visa processing can be done after that, even if the BRP has expired.

As long as the online application is submitted before your BRP expires, your immigration status and right to work in the UK will be automatically extended under Section 3C Leave while your visa is processing.

During Covid, the UKVCAS centres were closed for several months, so we had people here on the forum whose BRPs expired in March/April 2020 after they had applied, but they weren’t able to book or attend biometrics until July/August/September 2020.

Sorry to hear that . Fingers crossed for the next time.

To note though, whichever application you end up doing, it’s still a visa:

- FLR is a temporary visa
- ILR is a permanent visa

Until you are granted UK citizenship, you will still be living in the UK on a visa.

If you don’t manage to pass the test before you have to apply for ILR, what you can do is still apply for ILR anyway, book your biometrics for a few weeks out, and still keep trying to pass the test in the meantime.

If you manage to pass it before your biometrics appointment, you will qualify for ILR, and so you would just need to include a cover letter with your test pass reference number and explain that you passed it after submitting the visa application.

If you don’t pass it before biometrics, they will instead grant you FLR, and will ask you to pay the IHS surcharge, and they’ll refund the difference in the visa fees.

Thank you so much as you give such valuable information. Hoping I got this next time! Just a lot of stress as I didn’t find out until late that I needed to test for ILR and there is so much information at once to deal with. Thank you again for all the help

I'm so sorry.   It's such a shame you have the added pressure of the time factor too. The test is bad enough.

Take your time. Make sure you read the questions carefully. Some of them can be written with double negatives  and the like and seem to be designed to trip you up, rather than just testing your knowledge.
When you think you're done, go back to the beginning and check all your answers again.

The very best of luck.

Congratulations !

You no longer get a certificate - instead you will be given a Unique Reference Number that you will need to enter into the ILR application form.

See here:
https://www.gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test/what-happens-test

You will also need the reference number for your citizenship application if you decide to apply for it.
