Honeycrisp apples.
« on: June 14, 2022, 08:53:25 PM »
When researching apple varieties to plant in the garden, I've come across Honeycrisp. It's apparently hugely popular as an eating apple in the US but I had never heard of it until now.

Has anyone tasted one? Are they as good as the hype?

I remember learning about that variety ages ago from this article: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/11/21/crunch

You might find it interesting! They developed it at the University of Minnesota. Even has its own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeycrisp

They are delicious!

Yes, they are lovely. Not mealy at all. Great texture, great flavour. I'd go for it.

They are super common in NY, very tasty and definitely was one of my favourites. I miss apple season.

They dehydrate nicely - and get sweeter as the do - and are then quite nice in muffins and such things later on.

There are just two little Honeycrisp apples which have survived the June drop.   I'm keeping my fingers crossed that at least one of them makes it  the rest of the way!  :D
