Driving my cousin's car while on vacation in USA?
« on: July 26, 2022, 04:17:57 PM »
Hi all,

I am planning on being in the USA for the month of August this year and I would like to drive my cousin's car. I no longer have a valid US driving license but I do now have a full British one.

My cousin's car insurance company says I can drive her car if I have her permission but does anyone know if I really will be insured correctly not having the US driving license and not being a current US resident?

Thanks.

While we lived in the USA relatives of mine drove our cars on their UK DLs. I did confirm with our US insurance that it was okay.
Dual USC/UKC living in the UK since May 2016

I wonder if you could buy some extra insurance in advance if you are worried?  Something like the rental excess insurance you can buy here in the UK.  Another possibility is to check if your travel insurance covers you when driving.  The policy terms can vary wildly from one travel insurance provider to the next.
