Hey folks - for those that have applied recently....has anyone been in a situation where your employment information does not fit neatly into the 1 entry that they provide for you? Either have multiple jobs or aren't employed. I didn't think it would be an issue as there is no income requirement. Also - they want your tax reference number. Is this the employer's PAYE reference number or my national insurance number?

(PS) this is going off looking through the paper application for the channel islands as I've not started the online in-country application yet, so if this doesn't show up in the online application, please do let me know :-) Thanks.

I am also wondering the same thing.
What is the tax reference number? If anyone could help please.

Also I had another question.
The photo you stick on the referee forms does that have to be recent? Photo booths are very expensive now so just wondered.

Thank you in advance

@Alayna @Fatam94 This is your employer's PAYE reference number, usually found on a payslip. It's not your National Insurance number. Mine looks like xxx / xxxxxxx but yours could differ. My payslip directly calls it a 'Tax Office Reference Number' but your mileage may vary. I just applied in early May. This does show up in the 'Employment details' section of the application, but you have to choose whether you are employed or not first. I am employed, so I'm not sure what you may see if you say 'No' to the question 'Are you currently employed?'.

@Fatam94 Yes, within the last month of the signature on the referee form. If you follow the link here about passport photos you'll see the requirements: https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports

This is also the link provided in the Referee Declaration form. Most Post Offices have a booth or can take the photos for you. It was about £6 for me to get four printed out.

Thank you for clearing my doubts.
I have submitted and paid for my application, booked a free appointment for 5th June (was pretty impressed that i was able to book a free appointment that quick) and uploaded my documents.

One last question i had was:
I uploaded scans of my current passport, do I have to upload scans of my expired passport also? It has the leave to enter vignette in it?

Thankyou in advance.

Pleased to report that I got the approval email from Home Office this morning (yes on a bank holiday again!)

It's been 5 months and 7 days since my biometrics appointment. The email asks me to contact local council to schedule citizenship ceremony within 3 months of receiving this email.

I'd say yes, since typically the citizenship application uses your passport to confirm how long you've been in the U.K. Since the expired passport has your vignette and hence the entry stamp, I would include it 100%.

Hi everyone,
Do you have to submit your passport (hope not)? Any rules against travelling whilst the application is being processed?

Thanks

Hi All, I'm finally applying now and I'm a bit baffed by the referee section as the application just says they should either be a professional person or over 25? So is it ok if neither of mine are a professional person? I've got a police officer friend but he's not replying to my text for his info

You need to have referees who have known you for at least 3 years and meet the following criteria:

1) one referee must be a professional person. They can be of any nationality (so you could use someone from back home).

2) the other referee must be a British citizen who is either a professional person OR is over 25.

Thanks ksands, I put one referee in and got to the second entry and it's asking for a professional person now, was just weird and I was second guessing!

Answering my own question :D :

Quote
Travel after submitting an application
After submitting your naturalisation application, you are free to travel whilst you are waiting for a decision using your valid passport and evidence of your valid ILR, or other valid status. You do not need to tell us about your travel plans.

Please be aware, however, that you will usually be required to enrol your biometric information within 45 days of submitting your application. This may involve attending an appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service (UKVCAS) Centre (operated by Sopra Steria) in person and failure to do so would invalidate an application. You will receive instructions on how to provide your biometric details once you have submitted your application.

In addition, please note that should we grant an application, there is a 90-day period where you will need to arrange attendance at a citizenship ceremony.

But, outside of these timeframes, there is nothing in the citizenship process that would prevent you from travelling while your application is being considered.

Please bear in mind that a naturalisation application does not provide you with immigration permission and you will need to demonstrate your entitlement to re-enter the UK at the UK border. Also, a lengthy absence from the UK could cast doubt on your future intentions.

You should ensure that we are able to contact you quickly if we have any queries about your application
