ILR BRP renewal
« on: January 23, 2023, 09:19:45 PM »
Hi everyone,

My wife’s BRP expires on 31/12/2024 and I was wondering (so there are no surprises) what the process/requirements are to renew this permit?

Thank you for any help.

Ash

I assume she holds ILR?

If so, all ILR BRP cards are being issued with an expiry date of 24/12/2024, because UKVI are getting rid of BRPs completely on 1/1/2025... so after that date, instead of having a physical BRP card, she will be able to access and check her immigration status online.

They haven't announced how all this will work yet (I think they will announce more information in early 2024), but see here for what we do know so far:
https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence-permits/report-problem

From that page:

Quote
If your BRP expires on 31 December 2024
You do not need to tell UKVI if your BRP expires on 31 December 2024 but your immigration status (for example, your visa) allows you to stay longer.

You will not need a BRP from 1 January 2025. You’ll be able to prove your immigration status online, without a BRP.

UKVI will update their information on how to prove your immigration status in early 2024. You do not need to do anything and your immigration status will not be affected.
