Steps after moving to the UK
« on: June 14, 2023, 10:57:36 AM »
Hi all -- I was just wondering what the steps are I have to take after I move to the UK. I know I need to pick up my biometrics residence card within 10 days, but are there other things I have to take care of? For example, do I need to register with the local authorities or anything? I'm sort of wondering if I can go pickup my residence card before officially moving there, or if once I do that if there are other things I need to do within a short time. Thanks!

Our daughter's partner arrived in the UK from the USA on Sunday having completed his application for a  Global Talent visa. On Tuesday he went to the post office to collect his BRP which is good for 5 years. (He intends to advance through to ILR and the citizenship in due course).

He had secured a furnished apartment with a deposit and today met with the landlord to provide the share code he needs to make this legal. (this a requirement for England only I believe).

He is an Australian citizen as well so he plans to exchange his Australian driving licence for a UK one to avoid taking a UK driving test. (Our daughter's test is on July 4th, she is a US/UK citizen but has never held a UK licence).

He will be registering with a GP this week, and looking to get a UK phone esim for his iPhone.  He will also need to apply for a National Insurance Number, his work with a UK based company starts on July 1st.
Dual USC/UKC living in the UK since May 2016
