Hi all,

On the back of the announcement on the increase in application fees, I'm doing some research on the citizenship requirements in case we can get an application submitted asap.

Under good character, I had a question about debt. I have standard things like mortgage/loans/credit cards. I have filed self assessment and paid taxes for self employment. Nothing is behind.

However my husband had a jumbo UK tax bill last year from a fluke of a year, which he's paying off monthly this year via a payment plan. We are selling a property and money from that will pay off this debt along with others.

Will his tax burden affect this application? I am wondering if it's just too risky to rush through an application in order to avoid an extra ~£300 until we have paid off this debt.

I had another question about moving during the application process but from internet searches I can see that you can update your address so I'm less concerned about that.

Thanks so much!

I see nothing at all there which should affect any application.  If the applicant has debt with HMRC which HMRC are having to chase them for then that might be something to think about but it's perfectly acceptable to have debt with payment plans.  I don't think the non-applicant's situation matterrs.
