ILR Questions
« on: September 18, 2023, 03:48:37 PM »
Hi all, it's almost time to apply for my ILR and I thought I'd start a thread for some of my silly questions :)

First silly question: can I start the application, but not submit it, before I travel? I have a trip abroad coming up and want to do some of my application before I go, but submit when I get back. Is that allowed?

Thanks!!

Yes, but I don't know how long the information stays there.

It's the other way around that you can't do: submit an application and then leave the CTA, because then your application is treated as withdrawn.

I'm not sure I'll be able to get my application in before the end of October - if I apply in November, can my mail correspondence months be:
October 2023
May 2023
December 2022
July 2022
February 2022
September 2021
April 2021

...or will they have to start in November 2023?

Thanks :)

Is an annual mortgage statement from last year sufficient for an accommodation document, or does it need to be a more recent/monthly statement? I'm not sure if we receive them but we may be able to generate one online.

Your annual mortgage statement is fine, but you do need to include the most recent one you have received... so if there has been newer one issued since last year, you should include that one. If not, then last year's one is fine.

Getting prepared to submit... here's my checklist!

Background: Neither of us have been married before and we have no children, we are using my husband's job for finances.

Application
- Applicant passport with all pages scanned (only passport held since being in the UK)
- Signed sponsor's declaration/consent form (part of online application)

Other
Mail:
October 2023: S1 bank statement, S2 credit card statement
May 2023: joint bank statement
December 2022: S1 credit card statement, S2 credit card statement
July 2022: S1 bank statement, S2 credit card statement
February 2022: joint council tax bill
September 2021: S1 bank statement, S2 credit card statement
April 2021: S1 credit card statement, S2 HMRC letter

Accommodation:
- Latest council tax bill
- Latest mortgage statement
- Title register from HM Land Registry

Finances
- 7 months of payslips (April to October)
- 7 months of bank statements (stamped) (April to October)
- Employer letter
- Job contract
- Latest P60

Proof of Identity / Travel History
- Applicant's BRP
- Sponsor's UK passport with all pages scanned
- Marriage certificate

Two questions: one, we have moved since our last application. I registered this with the Home Office when we did so, but do we need to make mention of it since our mail is from two different addresses?
Two, I wasn't working when we bought our home and the mortgage and title register is only in my husband's name. Is there any problem with this?

Thanks in advance!!

Another question: do we wait to submit the visa at midnight when the priority slots are released? The only option I see when submitting now is for standard service.

Yes, you’ll need to submit at midnight - the priority slots go quickly… if there’s no option for priority when you try, that means they are all gone for the day. So you need to keep trying at midnight until you get it.

Don’t submit if just standard service is offered as you can’t add priority later.

Another few questions: I submitted the application over the weekend but my biometric appointment isn’t until 8 December. Will my mail (see above for dates!) still be okay, or will it have to be more recent? Also we should receive another more recent mortgage statement at the end of November. Would it be better to include that?

Thanks in advance :)

The documents clock stops on the day you submit the online application, as that is your official application date… so your documents must meet all the requirements on that date.

In fact, you cannot use any documents that are dated AFTER you submit the online application, as they had not been issued yet at the time you applied so they can’t be considered.

A few questions! I've now submitted our application and I'm uploading documents...

1) There's no specific section to upload our official copy of the title register for our home - I've put it into the optional section, is that okay or have we done something wrong? I did specify that we own.
2) Same as above but for our marriage certificate - hopefully it's fine in the "other" section
3) We moved since our last application which I registered this with the Home Office, do I need to acknowledge/mention it anywhere since our mail is from two different addresses?
4) Our mortgage and title register is only in my husband's name. Again, should I acknowledge/mention it?

TIA! :)

It should go in the Residence in the UK section along with the following:
- latest mortgage statement
- latest council tax statement
- your cohabitation documents

Yes, your marriage certificate goes in the Other section

Nope - no need to mention anything. People move all the time so it’s pretty common to have mail from different addresses. The important thing is that you show that both of you were living at the same address as each other at the same time.

Nope, no need to mention or acknowledge it.

The majority of applicants have their mortgage only in the sponsor’s name because it can be difficult for a visa holder to get approved for a mortgage (and the mortgage rates are usually more expensive if you are on a visa).

They consider your accommodation evidence to cover you both ‘as a couple’, so the house only needs to be owned by one of you, not both.
