Where to put State Pension on 1040?
« on: January 21, 2024, 04:40:57 PM »
It’s my first year filing federal taxes since receiving social security  and British state pension. I’m pretty sure I put  the SS amount on line 6a and $0 on line 6b as it is only taxed in the U.K. per the treaty.
Do I put the British state pension amount on line 5a and 5b  (pensions and annuities)?  I know that amount is taxable.
Thanks in advance for an answer.

Clare - the UK State pension is reported at Lines 5a and 5b. It is also reported on Form 1116.the UK State pension is reported at Lines 5a and 5b. It is also reported on Form 1116. If you have not already done so, you are also required to file annual UK personal self assessment tax returns reporting the income sources mentioned in the question. The United Kingdom has the primary right to charge tax on worldwide income and gains: https://www.gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment
