Submitting documents for 1st UK passport

I'm sending my documents tomorrow for my UK passport. Do I send my now expired US passport along with my current one? It says not to send cancelled passports but I'm thinking cancelled means if you've reported it lost or stolen. Plus it is the passport I used on my first UK entry. So I'm thinking yes, I need to send it.
