A quick catch up with Lyonaria
« on: June 05, 2024, 01:00:34 PM »
Hey everyone!

I know it's been absolutely ages and it's probably a bit easier for me to just put my hello and a bit of a catch up here.

Where in the world to start?

Dogs are still with me, my two sighthounds. Can you believe they're both 10? The same number of years I've lived here in the UK.

Hubs and I are still good, in our little house we bought just before I got ILR. Man, was THAT a stressful summer/fall.

We've both got health stuff. He has the multiple autoimmune conditions and me with my 1 year diagnosis for Vestibular Migraines. They were misdiagnosed as migraine headaches way back when, and I can tell you... they really suck. I was dead to the world on Monday and I can't figure out what was the trigger.

I'm looking for a new role at the moment, so that's why I'm online randomly in the middle of the day. So whoo! How fun. And finding a new role right now, it's a bit more difficult. And that's hitting me harder than I usually care to admit.

I still love knitting, reading, video games (now played on Steam Deck), and walking the dogs.

So yeah. Me in a nutshell.

It’s so great to see you back. Health issues are certainly tough, but seems like you are still fighting! You were certainly one of the people that helped me through the visa process, and it was always so helpful and cheering to hear from you.

Hey Hey! I love to help people and I'm so glad I was able to help you with yours. :D

When covid hit, I was totally freaked out and knitted a massive blanket and watched a lot of tv while I did it! haha. It kind of broke me of my phone habit for awhile. I definitely took a bit of a visa break though it seems like things are still pretty much the same requirements, though costs and income requirements are changing. Man. That sucks!

I know we all sort of come and go on here and then there are the staple crew. I'll be sure to swing by more often. I need to see if I can remember how to post pictures! haha. I used to know.

Good luck on the job front.  It's a tough time to find anything.  I've been looking to make a move from my current job, and it's noticeable that the numbers of jobs are down and the salaries are ridiculous.

I was diagnosed with vestibular migraines a few years ago!  Every single thing the neurologist mentioned, was sooo bizarre. My husband was like “do you have cameras in our house?”

I know stress really brings them on for me and it is near impossible to control stress!

Thanks, Jim! I'm looking closer to home because I was commuting 90 minutes and it was part of the reason I was so ill at the beginning of the year.

With so many people being made redundant and looking for work, so many roles are very competitive. It's tricky!

I got a call from a recruiter today for a role with an agency I had applied with 6 years ago, it was the SAME salary as back then!! Needless to say I said thank you but I'll have to pass as my last role was £10k higher than the low and £7k higher than the high.

Nice to see you back!

Thank you! Life has been interesting. How have you been?

No way?! I haven't met anyone else who gets them. I've apparently been getting them since I was 7, they're what we always thought were migraine headaches... Nope! Suprise. Vestibular Migraines.

I was diagnosed by an ENT, one of the top specialists in the country. I can remember him saying things and me being being like, 'Yes. That is my experience!'

I have a variety of triggers including foods, alcohol, barometric pressure, construction chemicals, being overstimulated by noise, people, and my environment. But my big ones are my mental health - so stress, anxiety and depression have some of the biggest impact. I'm on a daily med that's helped a lot though since January. I did try the holistic approach with supplements, but it wasn't doing enough while I was working. I kept getting sicker.

Hope you're still making progress against those migraines, and the job hunt is improving.

Stick in there!
