Great to see everyone else getting their WEP refunds and being put onto the correct (un-WEP'ed) amount from April 3rd onwards.

Oddly, after being sorted myself, I have today received a letter dated March 3rd (the same day SSA corrected all of my payments) saying they have overpaid me and will deduct more than $4,000 from my payments over the next 12 months. I give up.  ??? Left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing.

More fun at the SSA.

When I'd been "overpaid" due to WEP, I was more than happy for them to take 100% of each monthly payment to recover it, but they'd only take 10%.  It's all moot now of course.

That's interesting - good to see they will not apply the 100% clawback rate retroactively.

I'm just working through a spreadsheet to do all the calculations to check how much I do/do not owe. SSA have been messing me about since my 65th birthday (almost 3 years ago), when they started incorrectly applying WEP because of my UK state pension (shouldn't have started until my 66th birthday). It took them almost 12 months - and dozens of hours on the phone - to reimburse me, by which time they SHOULD have started WEP, but didn't ... it's a complete mess.

I feel bad for anyone on low income (who would find it difficult to deal with any sudden clawback) and also for responsible savers, planners and investors (whose WEP repayment causes tax issues). Luckily, I'm somewhere in the middle - I can deal with all the incorrect deductions, and won't ever be in danger of being pushed into 40% tax bracket.

No retro clawback at present.  ::)

I wouldn't really count on anything being stable for any length of time with the federal government.

My wife's back payment is also going to be paid tomorrow. Fortunately Rachel will only get 20% of it.

My wife's back payment did arrive on the 11th, a total of $7,207 and looking at her SS online account payment history it simply states that it is a one-off payment. She had been WEP'ed to the max so that $7,207 could equate to 15 months back payment (Jan '24 to April '25) $480.47/month.

Today we see that another SS payment is going to hit our UK bank account tomorrow, approximately $4,200 so we will log onto her SS account in a couple of days to see exactly how much but we've no idea what that is for. I did get approved for my SS last week and I'm wondering if they have upped her amount based on a spouse's SS being less than 50% of the other's SS at FRA.  She started receiving her SS 1 year before her FRA so her bump would be less but I 'm too dumb to calculate what she should get.

Over the muddled 3-year situation with my account I've never received a message or letter that clearly explained what was going on (that includes the recent WEP changes - not a single letter or message explaining what/why, so I just have to figure it out for myself).

Still, I feel overall that I shouldn't complain, considering the WEP repeal. Glass half-full, and all that.

Those are my feelings as well, I'm not going to dig too deep into what these payments are for,  just accept them gratefully but maybe be prepared at some point in the future for them to come back to me and say that they have overpaid me.

Like so many others, I'm also extremely grateful for the elimination of WEP (I started this post - it's interesting to read some of the earlier comments when it seemed to be touch and go whether it would actually happen or not  ::)

I mentioned in an earlier post that I downloaded the detailed SS calculator (Anypia - just google anypia download and you can find it) - although clunky, it does work and I've been able to verify that (in my case)  the retro amount and new benefit amount are actually correct to the nearest dollar (you do have to enter each year of your SS contibutions though).    I say this because given the chainsaw that is being applied to the federal workforce at present, it may be sometime before they get around to answering questions - if at all!.
