It was an actual email my wife received so this afternoon she logged onto her SSA account online, and went into her profile to check that her address is listed correctly.  Also checked her bank details while there but was sure they are correct anyway.

Just FYI - I log in frequently but use ID.me and an authenticator app - with push notification and simple YES in the authenticator app - no codes involved and straight back to the SS Account. Hope that helps...

Thanks for prompting me to revisit the ID.me access. It took a fair while (not least because most of the document options are US documents, and I couldn't find my SS card!). It also felt quite strange doing a video interview, but hopefully that's it sorted for easy access to my MySS account.

Interestingly, it looks like they are going to refund last month's withheld/"suspended" payment, and it's showing overpayments as zero - which is very odd, as I am pretty sure I do owe some WEP, for 2023. I'm not complaining though; it's just nice to see some efficiency from SSA for a change. Also very nice to see next month's payment amount as the non-WEP'ed amount. That gives my finances a bit more wiggle-room.  ;D

I also discovered that I do have email communication in my preferences - I get so few messages that I must have forgotten since the last email notification. Presumably I'll receive the same message as everyone else has received, sometime soon.

Just wondered how folk were getting on with either receiving their back dated SS or being notified as to what the new amounts will be going forward? I received the email from SSA a few days ago, i also recievec my March payment yesterday ( at the old rate) If I look at the SSA site it states my payment will still be at the old rate on 3 April, so no change there. Anyone else had more progress?
Also will be back dated amount be 12 or 14 months . Thanks!

My wife is in the same position.  I would not expect any changes to be completed before the end of this month so it is unlikey to see the correction in the April 1st payment.

If you go onto your MySS account and download your benefit verification letter, it should tell you your "new" (un-WEP'ed) amount. It doesn't tell you about any refunds of previously WEP'ed amounts, though.

Edited to add detail:

I've been monitoring my SSA account and benefits verification letter fairly regularly, because of the checquered history I have with WEP. From looking at patterns of changes on my account, (a) your "new" un-WEP'ed amount SHOULD now be in your benefits verification letter, as above (but this may well be appearing at different times for different people, as staff work through the backlog), (b) you SHOULD receive your new, un-WEP'ed amount from April 3rd, and (c) you SHOULD receive a refund for 14 months, in a "one-time payment" at some arbitrary date (i.e., not necessarily on the 3rd of the month).

Heads-up to everyone: It might be worth checking your MySS account regularly. My Payment History page has been changing on a frequent basis. Some very odd patterns, which I'll report after I receive my February payment (still not appeared in my account yet, which is a bit odd).

No change for me this month.

But they may be giving themselves time in case people respond to the 2022-2023 question, in which case they'd need to make a further adjustment.

Update: just logged into my account.  The monthly amount is now showing the full, un-WEP'd amount.  Except next month's amount is showing the WEP'd amount.  In addition, my payment history is showing a one-off payment (presumably the backdated amount - approx $2K) due today - but I haven't received it yet.  Things are moving, but maybe not fully processed yet.

Update 2:  Ignore my comment about next month's payment being the WEP'd amount.  It was this month's.

I have a similar "one time" payment, ca. $3,000, dated 27-02-2025, which I have not yet received. Meantime I have received my usual WEP'ed payment on the 3rd (yesterday).

My "next month's" payment (due April 3rd) is showing on my Home page as the un-WEP'ed amount.

I'm wondering if these one-time payments are almost like placeholders, waiting in some sort of queue until they are paid. Maybe they are being paid using a different mechanism than the regular payments, so take longer. All just conjecture, of course.  Oddly, the "one time" payment for 27-02-2025 originally showed an amount equal to my usual, WEP'ed amount. My guess is that they are working piecemeal on people's accounts, and that changes are appearing almost on-screen as they are working on them.

Another interesting discovery. I went into my Profile, to check my contact details and bank details. As expected my contact details are correct. Oddly, the information in the bank details was as follows:

Current Direct Deposit
Bank or Financial Institution:
Account Type: Checking
Account Number: x7620 (I've changed the three non-zero digits)

So, it's missing the bank name, and the account number is somewhat incorrect. The 762 (I have changed the numbers) are the last 3 digits of my bank account, but the 0 is superfluous. I'm not too worried, as my payments always come into the correct account, but I found this rather odd - how can you verify your bank details if they are not listed in your profile?

Just some context to queries about when things will be updated. The FAQ page referenced elsewhere (https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/social-security-fairness-act.html) indicates that "If a beneficiary is due retroactive benefits as a result of the Act, they will receive a one-time retroactive payment, deposited into the bank account SSA has on file, by the end of March. This retroactive payment will cover the increase in their benefit amount back to January 2024, the month when WEP and GPO no longer apply."

They also state, "Social Security benefits are paid one month behind. Most affected beneficiaries will begin receiving their new monthly benefit amount in April 2025 (for their March 2025 benefit)."

There's also a new bar chart, showing that, supposedly, they have only processed 20% of cases as of 3/3/3025 .... looks like they started processing cases on 25/2/2025.

Don’t worry about the bank details, I have noticed that before when checking my wife’s details. It too has no bank name and an extra zero at the end of the account number but the payments come through like clockwork every month.

Thanks for responding all! I have now looked on line at my verification letter and its been updated. It gives the Unwep'd figures for 2024 and 2025. Glad I asked the question.

Timing/WEP update - and good news. There's a bit of conflation with another issue, but bear with me. I've added bold to content related to WEP.

February 4th I realised my January payment had not been made. In brief, SSA had mistakenly suspended my payment for non-submission of form 7162, which I had actually submitted previously (twice). I duly mailed a set of forms and confirmation that the previous forms had been sent. Tracking confirmed these forms were received at FBU on February 13th.

February 24th I checked my SSA account and saw a one-time payment for the incorrectly-withheld January monthly payment, scheduled for February 27th.

February 27th I checked again, and the one-time payment was still showing the incorrectly-withheld January monthly payment, still scheduled for February 27th, but the payment had not been received.

March 4th, the one-time payment, scheduled for February 27th, was now for a much higher amount. I assume this is my "WEP refund" payment, plus the refund of the incorrectly-withheld January payment. A regular payment was also now showing, for my usual (WEP'ed) monthly amount. Later on March 4th, I received my usual (WEP'ed) monthly amount.

March 5th (this morning), I received the one-time payment in my bank account. I just checked my SSA account and my Home page shows my next payment (for April 3rd) will be for the correct (un-WEP'ed) amount.

Hopefully other posters will start to received their "WEP refund", and we will all be receiving un-WEP'ed payments from April. Note that my "WEP refund" showed a payment date of February 27th (and still does), but wasn't received until March 5th.

Good news today, my wife's SS has been adjusted up with the elimination of WEP and new monthly benefit will be paid in April. (She gets her benefits paid 1st of each month)

No mention of when the back payment may come but I'm confident that it will happen in due course.

You might find you get it today ( if you have a US bank account) mine turned up today  - the day after the verification letter was updated on the SSA site.

That would be great, although the payment would be coming to our UK bank account which is where her monthly benefits go, so maybe in a few days time.
