That would be great, although the payment would be coming to our UK bank account which is where her monthly benefits go, so maybe in a few days time.

I use WISE to receive my SS payments - WISE uses Community Federal Savings in NY. My regular payments are always received between 4:00am & 5:00am on the 3rd of each month or the business day before if the 3rd is a holiday or weekend - works lkike a dream for me!.

My payments arrive directly into my UK bank on the 3rd of the month, subject to bank holidays/weekends, like clockwork.  They come from Citibank Ireland I believe.

My USD account with Wise is at Column Bank - a recently opened account following a period where they weren't allowing USD accounts for NRAs.  I think Wise switched banking partners in the US after the data breach at Evolve.  Maybe they use multiple US partner banks now.

My SS account now shows the new amount, without WEP, scheduled to be paid on April 3. When I go into payments, it shows a very nice back payment dated March 5, however it has not yet landed in my bank account. This concerns me, but I think I can recall a similar delay with a back payment when I first started receiving Social Security.

My USD account with Wise is Federal Community Savings Bank, and has been for quite a while, so they do use different US banks

My back payment is dated 4th March but hasn't arrived here yet.  Not too concerned at the moment, TBH.

My recent one-time "refund" took about 7 days (see my earlier post). It was dated 27th February and arrived in the early hours of yesterday (5th March).

Seems like SS are getting through the backlog quickly now. My benefit amount (un-WEP'd) has been updated overnight and the backpayment amount is dated today - will advise when payment is received. Happy Days  :)

Then comes some updated UK tax planning - wasn't anticipating the repayment to be received this tax year.

I’d pulled out money from my IRA this year to pay for a house extension, but not go up a tax bracket. Now HMRC will get 40% of my back payment instead of 20% if it were next month,  but HeyHo. Still grateful to be getting anything.

Bad luck on the taxes but as you say it is nice to have the extra money. My wife has not received her back payment.

Still waiting here.  Agree on the tax issue.  Similar happened to me with my first SS payment which included a backdated lump sum.

I'm in an almost similar situation. I knew the WEP changes were coming but anticipated it would be 2025/26 before receiving the backdated lump sum ( how wrong I was). I have a SIPP and chose to maximise my drawdown to an amount to keep me in the 20% bracket but this lump sum has thrown me into the 40% bracket. To counteract this, I'm looking at putting the lump sum amount back into my SIPP and getting the tax relief on it and keeping me in the 20% bracket. I can't see HMRC treating this as pension recycling as it's a minor amount in comparison to the 25% lump sum I've aready taken. WHole thing is giving me a headache though! (nice headache! ;D)

Back payment received today.  Unfortunately, Rachel will get 40% of it.

Mine is landing tomorrow, according to my bank.
First time I’ve wished for a delay on payment.
It seems like the IRS are on the ball too, as I’ve already got my refund (and I filed a paper return).

My wife's back payment is also going to be paid tomorrow. Fortunately Rachel will only get 20% of it.

When my SS starts coming in next month Rachel will get 40% of it. I'm still *bleep*-a-hoop over getting WEP eliminated AND getting my SS on schedule as applied for.

I've chosen to roll my lump sum back into my UK SIPP so that Rachel gets none of it ;D AT least it kicks the can down the road.....

Unfortunately she'll probably get 40% of it when I finally kick the bucket - maybe time to go back to the US and avoid that nasty IHT grab.  ;)
