Question about eVisa
« on: November 11, 2024, 10:44:23 AM »
Hi everyone.

I received ILR earlier this year and during the summer successfully converted to eVisa.

I've accessed my immigration status online and it shows my picture, name, DOB and says there's no limit to how long I can stay in the UK.  I don't see the option to print, although I could do a printscreen.

If I'm the airport traveling back to the UK and the agent wants to see proof of my eligibility to travel to the UK, what do I show them?  This has only happened to me once, when traveling back from South Africa, but I definitely needed my BRP to get on the plane.  Do I provide a share code so they can look it up online?

I assume if I'm questioned when arriving in the UK they'll be able to find the information, but I'm not clear if I'm asked outside of the UK.

Maybe I'm just being dense.  Hopefully someone can clear up my confusion.

Thanks in advance!

You might find it easier to apply for British Citizenship and then when granted, get a British Citizen passport?

If you are married to a British Citizen, you do not have to hold ILR for 1 year. You will need to meet all the other requirements for British Citizenship.

With a British Citizen passport there is no eVisa needed to board a plane to the UK and unlike ILR, British Citizenship does not expire if you residie outside the UK for a set time (up to 2 years under present rules).

Thanks Sirius.  That's helpful.

I found this post on Reddit that discusses it a bit further.  The Youtube link had some good information.  Your passport must be linked to your eVisa account.  Then the airline checks electronically with UK immigration, so a Share Code won't be needed.  It's important that your passport number and other personal information is correct in your flight reservation.

Hopefully this all works smoothly.  I may take a screenshot of my immigration status from UK visa account and save it on my phone.
