Tunheim ordered their release ... on Jan. 19.  This comes after the detainees filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that ICE officers entered their home without a warrant on Jan. 15 and made their arrest at gunpoint. One of the detainees is a 12-year-old child who suffers from asthma. Petitioners alleged that the child was not given an inhaler during the time of detention. ... According to court documents, on Jan. 22, the Court held an in-person status conference where counsel informed the court that all six petitioners were still being held in detention facilities in Texas...The court documents indicate that as of Jan. 25, the respondents had failed to release detainees. Saturday and Sunday were also relatively quiet, with a handful of sightings and a couple of people taken, including a father in front of his family in Escondido yesterday. You can hear his wife pleading with a child by her side, “Help me, we have nobody else.” As they drive off with the only person to provide and protect them, the child is heard saying, “They’re going to kill him.”  This Sunday, we observed several ICE and Border Patrol vehicles enter the MDC and remain there for the day, not leaving until around 8:00 p.m. With the raids relatively calm, knowing Bovino has been demoted, and seeing the time they spent at MDC on Sunday, you can bet there’s some restructuring and planning going on. Bozeman, Montana:  A federal judge on Jan. 26 ruled that a lawsuit filed by two Montana State University students whose visas were temporarily revoked last year under the Trump administration’s “student criminal alien initiative” can proceed. DHS asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit in September, arguing that the plaintiffs’ claims were moot because their visas had been reinstated and DHS had changed its policies. Great Falls, Montana:  When Border Patrol arrested a beloved mechanic in Froid, Montana, neighbors were forced to reckon with national immigration policy. Neighbors drove hundreds of miles to show support for Roberto Orozco-Ramirez at a court hearing Wednesday. “The community responded more than I ever thought,” his son said.... A U.S. Department of Justice lawyer wearing a black suit advocated for Orozco-Ramirez to remain in detention, calling him “dangerous.” Several of the dozen or so Froid residents, who had driven seven hours to show their support for their neighbor, shook their heads. A public defender rebutted this, referencing a previous statement by the local sheriff stating he “posed no danger to the community.” Court documents say Orozco-Ramirez has no criminal history...
