St. Paul:  Federal agents reportedly released six St. Paul residents, including one minor, after federal agents failed to follow court orders. District Judge John R. Tunheim ordered their release ... on Jan. 19.  This comes after the detainees filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that ICE officers entered their home without a warrant on Jan. 15 and made their arrest at gunpoint. One of the detainees is a 12-year-old child who suffers from asthma. Petitioners alleged that the child was not given an inhaler during the time of detention. ... According to court documents, on Jan. 22, the Court held an in-person status conference where counsel informed the court that all six petitioners were still being held in detention facilities in Texas...The court documents indicate that as of Jan. 25, the respondents had failed to release detainees. The responders did file a status report later that day.  On Sunday [Feb 1.], the court shared that detainees had been released, though it is not clear what day they were released or if they are back in Minnesota.  https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/ice-in-minnesota/six-st-paul-residents-including-a-minor-released-from-immigration-custody-mn/89-136cdabb-8507-4f2c-a40e-bf2949bd97e6

Trump’s DOJ may send 5-year-old back to ICE detention center. The Department of Justice has signaled it will likely appeal a decision that forced ICE to release a five-year-old boy from detention.  -  https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/trump-s-doj-may-send-5-year-old-back-to-ice-detention-center/ar-AA1VwciI    https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/02/01/deputy-ag-blanche-trump-administration-to-appeal-liam-conejo-ramos-release

If they treat them as they have treated Kilmar Abrego Garcia...They need to get that family out of the country ASAP. They are about 320 miles from the Canadian border - about a six to seven hour drive in good weather, and just a bit farther on to Thunder Bay, Ontario. One would hope Canada would have a heart at take them in.

‘ICE conveyor belt’ illegally detaining, moving Minnesota children to Texas faster than courts can respond. “They flood the zone with all these arrests,” Clark said. “All the tactics towards protesters, and then people are just missing the biggest thing (which) is this conveyor belt where they’re just arresting people without legal basis, and moving them.”‘It’s immoral and it’s also illegal’ - https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/01/28/ice-detaining-moving-minnesota-children-to-texas-faster-than-courts-can-respond

Epstein Survivors Furious After DOJ Screws Up File Redactions. The Justice Department made “thousands of redaction failures,” according to survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse. DOJ published dozens of nude photos of victims. “There is no conceivable degree of institutional incompetence sufficient to explain the scale, consistency, and persistence of the failures that occurred—particularly where the sole task ordered by the Court and repeatedly emphasized by DOJ was simple: redact known victim names before publication,” ...“DOJ cannot plausibly characterize this as error, negligence, or bureaucratic failure. The task was straightforward: take the list of known victims and redact those names everywhere they appear,” the letter states. “When DOJ believed it was ready to publish, it needed only to type each victim’s name into its own search function. Any resulting hit should have been redacted before publication. Had DOJ done that, the harm would have been avoided.” - https://newrepublic.com/post/206026/epstein-survivors-doj-take-down-files-redaction-failures   [Retribution?]

Dilley concentration camp, Dilley, TX:  'A public health emergency': doctors sound alarm on measles outbreak at Texas ICE center. San Antonio, TX:  ICE buys warehouse on San Antonio's East Side, angering local officials: An internal ICE document obtained by the Dallas Morning News last month said the agency had been eyeing the warehouse for conversion to a 1,500-bed processing center — a facility migrants would go through before being transferred to a detention center and ultimately deported. - https://www.expressnews.com/news/article/ice-warehouse-san-antonio-east-side-industrial-21329611.php     https://www.dallasnews.com/news/immigration/2026/01/29/ice-plans-mega-texas-detention-center-in-hutchins-to-hold-9500-agency-doc-shows/

Los Angeles, CA:   From LA Taco - Somethings coming. We don’t know what, but this weekend, including today, we haven’t seen the usual Border Patrol raiders. Saturday and Sunday were also relatively quiet, with a handful of sightings and a couple of people taken, including a father in front of his family in Escondido yesterday. You can hear his wife pleading with a child by her side, “Help me, we have nobody else.” As they drive off with the only person to provide and protect them, the child is heard saying, “They’re going to kill him.”  This Sunday, we observed several ICE and Border Patrol vehicles enter the MDC and remain there for the day, not leaving until around 8:00 p.m. With the raids relatively calm, knowing Bovino has been demoted, and seeing the time they spent at MDC on Sunday, you can bet there’s some restructuring and planning going on. So brace yourselves for the rest of this week. We don’t know what changes may come. - https://lataco.com/daily-memo-february-2nd-theyre-going-to-kill-him-toddler-says-as-border-patrol-arrests-her-father [Aside: I agree. A certain major university in Southern California last night after close-of-business sent out an email memorandum to all affiliates about their rights when confronted by persons claiming to be immigration enforcement on campus. This is the second such memo to be sent out in a period of only a few weeks. It is highly unusual, as the campus administration is notorious for being, shall we say... less than proactive.]

Salem, Oregon: U.S. citizen injured by federal agents in Salem who demanded to see “papers,” union says. A woman who’s a U.S. citizen needed medical help Thursday, Jan. 29, after federal agents pulled her from her car after demanding to see her “papers,” one of the state’s largest unions said Saturday.[ https://seiu503.org/member_news/seiu-503-member-assaulted-by-federal-agents-in-salem/ ] The vehicle pulled in front of her and stopped, while another parked behind her. Three men and a woman exited the vehicles wearing vests saying “police,” and one “banged on her window, demanding that she show them “papers.” SEIU said. “When Maria did not immediately respond, the agents shattered her car window, forcibly removed her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground, causing numerous injuries,” the statement said.  As she was on the ground, the agents dumped out her purse, found her U.S. passport and left the scene, according to SEIU. - https://www.salemreporter.com/2026/01/31/u-s-citizen-injured-by-federal-agents-in-salem-who-demanded-to-see-papers-union-says/

A month before President Donald Trump renewed his calls last week to take on Americans’ crushing consumer debt by capping credit card interest rates, his administration quietly intervened in a legal battle to do the opposite. In December, Trump’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which oversee the nation’s financial regulations, filed legal briefs in a case opposing a new Colorado state law that would rein in soaring interest rates on financial products, including credit cards.

Portland, Oregon:  Officials Condemn ICE After Federal Agents Tear Gas Peaceful Protesters and Children. Saturday’s rally and march led by local labor unions against ICE drew thousands of participants. The disproportionate federal response to a peaceful protest has rattled the city. Lisa Morrison, 64, attended the rally with her 78-year-old husband, Bud Erland, a retired TriMet driver and member of the Amalgamated Transit Union. “I knew the union organizers were committed to a peaceful, family-friendly march so we did not expect to be gassed and we were in no way prepared to shield ourselves,” Morrison told the Mercury.  Morrison said she and her husband were still marching on South Moody—“in a crowd of peaceful people of all ages, from elders to babies”—when the agents deployed tear gas. https://www.portlandmercury.com/news/2026/02/01/48289870/portland-officials-condemn-ice-after-federal-agents-tear-gas-peaceful-protesters-and-children

Los Angeles, CA:   Mormon immigrants and ICE. DHS Hunts Down 67-Year-Old U.S. Citizen Who Criticized Them in Email: The Washington Post reports that a retired Philadelphia man, Jon, 67, found himself in the government’s crosshairs after he emailed a lead prosecutor at the Department of Homeland Security, Joseph Dernbach, who was handling the deportation case of an Afghan refugee, identified as H, asking him to consider that the man’s life was in danger from the Taliban....Days later, DHS agents showed up at Jon’s door. A naturalized U.S. citizen originally from the U.K., Jon was worried about potential violence. The agents showed him a copy of the email and asked to see his side of the story. Washington, DC:  Brothers of Renee Good, and others, testify about federal agents' use of force at Capitol Hill hearing. "The deep distress our family feels because of Nay's loss in such a violent and unnecessary way is complicated by feelings of disbelief, distress and desperation for change," Luke Ganger said. "In the last few weeks, our family took some consolation thinking that perhaps Nay's death would bring about change in our country. And it has not."...Among the others who testified Tuesday:  Aliya Rahman, a Minneapolis resident who said she has autism and traumatic brain injury and was forcibly pulled from her car by agents while she was on her way to a medical appointment. Rahman told lawmakers that she can no longer lift her arms normally after the incident and was never told to show an ID or the reason she was arrested. ..."Approaching the Whipple center, I saw Black and Brown bodies shackled together, chained together, being marched by yelling agents outdoors," she said. "I continued to hear the word 'bodies' because that's how agents referred to us. 'We're bringing in a body.' 'They're bringing in bodies seven and eight at a time, where do I put them?' 'We can't use that room, there's already a body in there.' Great Falls, Montana:  When Border Patrol arrested a beloved mechanic in Froid, Montana, neighbors were forced to reckon with national immigration policy. Neighbors drove hundreds of miles to show support for Roberto Orozco-Ramirez at a court hearing Wednesday. “The community responded more than I ever thought,” his son said.... A U.S. Department of Justice lawyer wearing a black suit advocated for Orozco-Ramirez to remain in detention, calling him “dangerous.” Several of the dozen or so Froid residents, who had driven seven hours to show their support for their neighbor, shook their heads. A public defender rebutted this, referencing a previous statement by the local sheriff stating he “posed no danger to the community.” Court documents say Orozco-Ramirez has no criminal history... Neighbors embraced, wiping tears from their eyes. “It’s nonsense,” Brittney Nordlund, who works in Froid Public Schools, said of the allegation that Orozco-Ramirez is “dangerous.” “They’re lying,” Rachel Sundheim, another Froid resident, said through tears. “He is the role model we want in our community.” Their decision to travel nearly 400 miles — one way — to the hearing, which lasted all of eight minutes, was just the latest of many community efforts to show their support for their  neighbor. Though the vast majority of Orozco-Ramirez’s neighbors voted for President Donald Trump, who has made vows to deport “illegal aliens” a centerpiece of his administration, the town has rallied to support him — since his arrest they have demonstrated their outrage at Border Patrol through protests, letters to lawmakers, public Facebook posts and now their presence in the courtroom. - https://montanafreepress.org/2026/01/28/froid-montana-border-patrol-arrest-immigration/  [ Froid - https://townoffroid.com/about-us ]

But given what awaits those who are deported, Blumberg said, the comparison makes sense. “The Haitians cannot go back to Haiti. Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany has shifted to 24/7 operations due to increased military activity, possibly linked to preparations for a U.S.- led conflict with Iran.  An official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) states: “ETAD (Spangdahlem Air Base) is currently open 24/7 due to operational tempo,” and advises aircraft planning to divert to coordinate in advance. - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HAVhUz3WEAAE1Ok?format=jpg&name=900x900

The U.S. and Iran could not agree on the form of negotiations. "We told them it is this or nothing, and they said, 'Ok, then nothing,'" a senior U.S. official told Axios.

[Yeah, about the US government saying they wanted talks... they never wanted talks. They were just buying time.  So much more blood is about to be on their hands.  I dream that at some point the rest of the world institutes the equivalent of the Nuremberg trials and brings them all to justice. There isn't much hope, otherwise, that they'll pay for all the lives they've destroyed and people who have died directly and indirectly because of their actions.]

Aside:

Those damned Blackhawks are up again. I just got all the pictures on the walls level again, too. Arrgh! I guess it's time to at least start thinking about which of them will be packed for shipping and which will go to the charity shops.  My paid subscription here ends the morning of 8 Feb. I have been documenting as much as I could, for the last year. I don't know if it is doing any good, or if it's ever even going to be noticed by anyone. Eventually I assume it'll be erased and people will forget what happened.  But I did what I could, and will in the next 3+ days. After that, I don't know. I guess I'm just hoping that at least some people outside the USA get a better glimpse of what's going on here than their national news might offer them, if for nothing than to serve as a cautionary tale. It could just as easily happen to you if you're not vigilant. Even if the country votes the Trump regime out of office, and we can actually get them all out of office in a literal sense [cue 6 January insurgence], the damage that has been done to this country is catastrophic.  It will never be the same place again, for good or bad. How ironic the timing, 1776-2026.

Dilley Concentration Camp, Texas: 11-year-old Minnesota girl released from immigration custody. An 11-year-old student from the same school district as Liam Conejo Ramos was been released from immigration custody in Texas on Wednesday. Elizabeth Zuna Caisaguano, a 4th grader at Highland Elementary, was the first student in the district to be taken into custody when she and her mother were detained by ICE on their way to school last month, according to Columbia Heights Public Schools. The school district confirmed that both mother and daughter are currently traveling back home to Minnesota. - https://www.sacurrent.com/news/san-antonio-news/another-student-from-liam-conejo-ramos-school-district-has-been-released-from-dilley/

Minnesota:  Pursued by federal agents, suburban ICE observers remain resolved. ICE tries to run observers off the roads, and more. Elizabeth had been volunteering as an observer in the suburbs since Good was killed. A little more than a week ago, she looked out the front window of her townhome to see an unfamiliar SUV on her husband’s side of the driveway. A white man was in the driver’s seat. The SUV peeled off when Elizabeth started recording.  When she called the police, they took a report and told her the SUV’s South Dakota license plates belong to a different model car. Swapping license plates has become a signature of federal agents during the immigration enforcement surge, despite a warning from the state’s Driver and Vehicle Services to stop the illegal practice. Other observers have reported agents using private citizen data to track them to their homes.  - https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/02/04/pursued-by-federal-agents-suburban-ice-observers-remain-resolved

To start with, there's the "wrastlin' " crowd. I knew them well as a young person in far west Texas. You know there's white collar workers and blue collar workers? There's also "no collar" workers, the kind who do heavy manual labor in the hot sun out in the oil fields. Good people, tough people, generally simple (not stupid) people, loyal to a friend until death people - would literally give a stranger the shirt off their back if you needed it people. A lot of those folks that I knew just loved watching wrestling matches on tv or at the armory. Minnesota:  Karen immigrants fled Myanmar's military. Now many are hiding from ICE.  More than 20,000 people from Myanmar live in the state, which is home to the United States’ largest population of Karen people, an ethnic minority group from Myanmar. The Karen community includes U.S. citizens, refugees and asylum seekers... Many of the Karen immigrants in Minnesota resettled here as refugees in the early 2000s, after fleeing to refugee camps in Thailand. Others have sought asylum, a distinct legal status. Some were part of pro-democracy or student groups in Myanmar...Recently, federal immigration activities have caused fear and uncertainty among Karen people in Minnesota...ICE has detained recently-arrived refugees and asylum seekers from Myanmar. Dilley Concentration Camp, Texas:    Democratic Lawmakers Get Legal Win Over DHS, Allowed to Visit ICE Detention Facilities:- About a dozen congressional Democrats received good news on Monday [Feb 2] after a federal judge ruled in their favor, finding that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) may have broken the law after previously disallowing Washington lawmakers to visit immigrant detention facilities without providing advanced notice. - https://www.military.com/daily-news/2026/02/02/democratic-lawmakers-get-legal-win-over-dhs-allowed-visit-ice-detention-facilities.html    9:35 PM · Feb 5, 2026 Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. ‪@repdexteror.bsky.social‬  I was just denied entry to the Dilley detention facility while my constituent, seven-year-old Diana, remains inside. Gresham, Oregon/Dilley Concentration Camp, Texas:  ‘There’s no legal reason for them to be in custody’: Oregon congresswoman plans to take Gresham family home from ICE detention. The Crespo-Gonzalez family has been held at the South Texas Family Residential Facility since they were detained in Portland Jan. 16. They were apprehended while seeking medical care for Diana’s nosebleed that wouldn’t stop...DHS reported Sunday that two detainees at the facility had contracted measles. As a result, Dexter said she and her team were prepared to show proof of their measles vaccination status and assume responsibility for risks associated with entering the facility. Before they reached the facility’s entrance however, a detention center employee told them they would not be allowed to enter — but not because of the measles outbreak. The employee told her they were not concerned about measles risks as there were “no active cases” but did not provide another justification for the denial. - https://www.opb.org/article/2026/02/06/oregon-representative-maxine-dexter-gresham-family-ice-detention/ The Crespo-Gonzalez family

Kilmar Abrego Garcia:  The case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia captured national headlines last year as part of a wave of criticism against the second Trump administration's aggressive immigration enforcement. It was the speed of his deportation — from working in Maryland one week, to getting whisked off to a notorious prison in El Salvador the next. But it was also because it was a mistake: something a government lawyer admitted in court. Immigration lawyers said Abrego Garcia's landmark case highlights the challenges with the speed and scale of the Trump administration's goal of mass deportations. "We really thought this was going to be one of a kind," said Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, one of Abrego Garcia's lawyers. "If anything, it was just the tip of the spear. There have been countless illegal deportation cases since then. If anything, the problem is getting worse and not better."...As for Abrego Garcia, he's out of detention for now. The judge in his case is still weighing whether to allow immigration officers to detain him again while his criminal and immigration cases play out. - https://www.kuow.org/stories/kilmar-abrego-garcia-becomes-symbol-of-mistaken-deportations

Los Angeles, California: A Salvadoran Latter-day Saint and her children entered the country legally. Under the Trump administration, that hasn’t been enough to keep them together. Members of Montana’s all-GOP federal delegation have called for an investigation into Alex Pretti’s death.  Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who worked for Veterans Affairs, was shot and killed by federal officers Saturday morning in an act that has roiled the country.
