I'm an American, married to a British citizen, and have been living in the UK for 6 years. I received my ILR a year ago.

Now I'm thinking about applying for UK citizenship. I just want to be sure that when I reach retirement age, I'll still be able to collect my US social security if I'm a dual citizen (I worked in the US for 35 years and am eligible for it). Is anyone here a dual citizen and collecting their social security?

Thank you

Hi, I'm not an expert, but based on our experience I think you'll be ok. My wife (US citizen for her whole.life) moved to the UK in 2016 (we married in the US earlier that year) and became a UK citizen in early 2022. She claimed her US social security pension as soon as she became eligible earlier this year. There was a bit of paperwork to be done , but she's been receiving her full entitlement since the summer.
Good luck.
